DETROIT (AP) — General Motors said Wednesday that an executive at its U.S. Chevrolet marketing unit has resigned, effective immediately.

The automaker did not disclose a reason as to why Chris Perry, who held the title of vice president, elected to resign.

Chevrolet's U.S. sales were up 6.5 percent through November, but they lag the overall market growth of 8.4 percent.

Perry, 53, held several marketing positions at GM, since joining the company in August 2010.

GM did not immediately announce a succession plan.

"GM would like to thank Chris for his dedication and contributions, and wishes him well in all his future endeavors," Alan Batey, Chevrolet's executive vice president, said in a statement.

Shares in GM ended regular trading down 26 cents at $41.27. The stock added 2 cents to $41.29 in extended trading.
