LEE, Maine (AP) — A Maine utility is cancelling a planned outage so crews can focus on restoring power to those who lost it during the weekend ice storm.

Bangor Hydro Electric had planned to turn off power for two hours Friday in parts of Winn and Lee to take care of scheduled maintenance. But the utility said Thursday that work will be rescheduled and customers will be notified in advance.

Bangor Hydro was reporting about 11,500 outages early Thursday afternoon. It estimates that power will be restored by Saturday night in Washington County, Sunday night in Penobscot County and Wednesday in Hancock County.

Central Maine Power, with more than 21,000 customers still without power Thursday afternoon, hoped to get electricity back for most by the end of the day.
