FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — AutoNation's new vehicle sales for December rose 6 percent, the nation's biggest automotive retailer said Monday.
The company sold 29,596 new vehicles in all, with sales of new domestic vehicles climbing 2 percent, and sales of imported vehicles increasing 3 percent. Premium luxury vehicle sales surged 18 percent from the prior-year period.
Sales of new vehicles sold at locations open at least a year edged up 1 percent.
In the fourth quarter, new vehicle sales climbed 9 percent to 77,964. The biggest gain was in the premium luxury segment, which rose 15 percent. Domestic sales increased 8 percent and import sales climbed 7 percent.

AutoNation Inc. said that full-year new vehicle sales rose 11 percent to 296,419 vehicles. Premium luxury sales increased 16 percent, while domestic sales climbed 13 percent. Import sales rose 7 percent.
Sales of new vehicles at locations open at least a year rose 6 percent.
The company said it expects to report its January results on Feb. 4.
