SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a student was shot and wounded at a high school.
The Salisbury Post reports (http://bit.ly/1fUJNSW) that Chief Rory Collins identified the student only as a boy and freshman who also played a sport at Salisbury High School.
Collins says the shooting happened around 3 p.m. Monday in the gym after classes were dismissed for the day. He says the shooting is believed to be related to a fight over the weekend. He says two suspects ran from the scene.
Rowan County Emergency Services Director Frank Thomason says the victim was taken to a hospital in a private car.
Salisbury High and nearby Livingstone College about 40 miles northeast of Charlotte were placed on lockdown for a short time after the shooting before being lifted.
