WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee is not taking sides in a dispute between the panel's Democratic chairwoman and the nation's spy agency, saying the facts are not yet known.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia said in brief remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday evening that a special investigator may have to be appointed to discover what happened.

He spoke one day after Sen. Dianne Feinstein accused the CIA of snooping in a computer network it had set up for the intelligence committee aides at work on a report about the alleged use of torture against detainees after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

A CIA official has accused committee staff of possibly violating federal law by possessing an internal agency report on the treatment of detainees.
