NEW YORK (AP) — A Metro-North Railroad employee paralyzed in the deadly train derailment in New York City has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the railroad.

Samuel Rivera's lawyer tells the Daily News (http://nydn.us/OBVbuI ) that his client "has extraordinary medical needs" as a result of his injuries.

Rivera, who off-duty, was aboard the speeding Manhattan-bound train on Dec. 1 when it derailed in the Bronx. Four people were killed and 70 others were injured, including Rivera's teenage son.

Rivera was heading into Manhattan to spend the day with his son. He sued on Monday.

It was the second lawsuit to be filed over the derailment.

Last Friday, Eddie Russell, a retired police officer, sued Metro-North for $10 million.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs Metro-North, declined to comment on the lawsuits.
