NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard says a 751-foot cargo ship has run aground in the lower Chesapeake Bay, and officials hope they can try to free it during high tide.

The bulk carrier Ornak ran aground Tuesday night near First Landing State Park as winds gusted up to 70 mph. The ship typically carries goal and gravel and was anchored east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. No injuries, damage or pollution were reported. Officials say they'll attempt to free it Wednesday morning if weather conditions allow.

The Coast Guard also reports that about an hour before the grounding, two vessels collided in a main shipping channel. The 79-foot rig vessel Petite and the 1,065-foot container ship MSC Charleston were later safely anchored, with no injuries reported.

Winds also caused 12 ships to drag anchor.
