America's Tienanmen and Blogger of the Year 2010
WikiLeaks is America's Tienanmen. Julian Assange is the tank guy. We all hold our breath to see if we go all the way.

From Afghanistan to the BP oil spill to the silver screen, 2010 left its mark in death. We mark its passing with an obituary.

I like this blog. Progressives/liberals in the blogosphere are more open to others' opinions than conservative blogs (those are minefields). I'm not sure if Wikileaks leads the story of the year, but Sarah Palin sure took up a lot of space here in 2010. Hopefully we will see less of her and more of the re-building of our demolished economy.

I would like to see a return to embracing the Geneva Convention and a public repudiation of the weasel wording around torture like rendition, enhanced interrogation. An end to incarceration without charges, legal representation, held as combatents until the end of some undeclared war.

When we gave up the moral high ground in conducting our defense, we gave up that one precious thing that was worth defending, the one thing that was the beacon that America held for the rest of the world. I want that back.

I thought that by electing Barack Obama, we were smacking the ugly Rethuglican face right off of America. Unfortunately, the conservative stench continues to linger...

love huffpost but am totally turned off to all the tabloid-style articles on b-list celebs wearing bikinis and headlines trumpeting the all-time worst or best whatever (since the last time I looked) and sensational headlines that link to something totally inconsequential...would love huffpost to rally around some higher journalistic standards which is what drew me to you in the first place

“To all my fellow commentors who have; sharpened my skills at debate and trull bashing, provided me insight to complex issues, who have most of all made me laugh and provided me with a kind word, I thank you all and wish you the best for next year.
To 2010; Good bye and good fuukin riddance!”

There are those years you're sorry to see end and those you're watching the clock until they do. 2010 and this entire decade is one of those I bid adieu to with no fondness. America is the land of opportunity and freedom, except to those who would deny that inalienable right to everyone but themselves. My hope for this new decade is to see restoration of that promise and a decline of those who would deny it to others.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." --Lao Tzu

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” --Ghandi

I want 2011 to be a year of progress. Progress begins at the individual level. I want changes from my political system but I must also understand that if I don't combat the ignorance and malfeasance in our system with knowledge, truth, and integrity very little will happen. I have to educate and understand myself before i can expect someone to understand me and understand my positions. I've learned that people will happily live in ignorance because ignorance provides you with a false sense of comfort and a false sense of superiority. If i don't understand myself and if I'm not informed how can I possibly expect to be part of OUR revolution and rebellion against the ignorance, arrogance, and greed that has penetrated our nation?

I'm asking everyone here to continue fighting for our liberties and our rights with knowledge, information, and faith that we will one day achieve a national consciousness; A national consciousness that will expel the arrogance, ignorance, and greed thats slowly rotting our nation at the core. We might not get everything we want in 2011. We might not get everything we want in 2012 but if we continue taking steps, even if they are small, to combat this rot.... we will truly one day be able to experience and taste the essence of the American Dream.

When will Gitmo be closed? He is no different than Bush. He is a war president. Stop the war!! Stop the war!! Blood is on his and his parties hands. The killing of innocent people in Pakistan will never end with this man in control. He should be charged with war crimes.
