It has been really discourteous to all the people who have made great sacrifice to come to march in the Parade -- and to the hundreds of thousands of people on the Parade route -- to get so behind schedule. Not only is the weather extremely cold, by now most of the Parade will be in the dark. Somebody should have told the lunch crowd that they had to cut it short.

I thought Obama had muffed it when he stopped reciting the oath of office. I thought that oh, well, at least it shows he's human. But it turns out that Justice Roberts is the one who actually messed up and Obama stopped because he wanted to recite precisely what the Constitution prescribes. Maybe that's a good sign that President Obama is going to be a stickler for details as far as following the Constitution is concerned.

You are correct that the problem was Roberts and not Obama. You can see that Obama keeps giving him a chance to self correct and then failing that decides to be gracious and punge ahead. While this is not as serious a blunder as attempting to remove the vice president from the executive branch. I think Roberts should administer the oath again in public to set an example of this countries commitment to the Constitition. And when the correct oath is recited, lets drop the addendum "So help me god" . The Constitution is not a document that well endures rats nibbling at the edges. Our Constitution is not about our relationship with a higher power, it is our covenant with one another.

In Lincoln's Cooper's Union address, he takes Justice Taney to task for misquoting the constitution in his opinion on Dred Scott. He also makes the point that this was part of a concerted media effort on the part of the secessionist. Let's nip abridgement of the Constitution by ignorance in the bud.

Did President Obama actually say exactly these 35 words: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States"?

Thousands of Purple ticket holders were denied entrance when gates closed with no explanation with 15 minutes until ceremonies began. Many are still lined up in the 3rd Street tunnel right now. With the Mall closed off at this time, we were gridlocked in an area with no officials, no television screens, and no information.

Thanks for this live blog. Since I am at work and can't download the required flash plug-in, this is as close as I can get to watching the inauguration in real time.

Bishop Eugene Robinson insulted and disrespected at the Lincoln Memorial Concert. (Homophobe-in-chief Rick Warren, of course, remains the most honored clergyman inaugural week). Inaugural Committee announces that the new president will not attend the Veterans' Ball- the first time a president will ever have snubbed the vets in this way. Nice work, inaugural committee. Obama starts out having offended both the gays and the military. Somebody needs to wake up.
