Hands #1, oil on canvas, 24
Hands #1, oil on canvas, 24"x24", 2011, previously shown at Saatchi: Gallery Mess, London. I am very interested in how our work changes our hands, and am planning a series of paintings of the hands of people working in different fields. Here, the hands of a dancer have become defined and articulate, and she expresses a complex, even illegible, emotion in a single gesture. >>About Daniel Maidman

Thomas Whittaker Kidd, PERFORMANCE TREE, 68x55
Thomas Whittaker Kidd, PERFORMANCE TREE, 68x55", oil on canvas, 2012. The aged New Orleans pavement is alive, moist, yearning, displaying its experience in its cracks and colors. Live music; a moment to live in for a while. My Los Angeles solo exhibits were at ACME and at Carl Berg Gallery. In 2012 I was in the exhibit, TO LIVE AND PAINT IN LA, at the Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA. More information and images: thomaswhittakerkidd.com. >>About Thomas Whittaker Kidd

ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION! 2009. Cut and carved drywal
ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION! 2009. Cut and carved drywall, wood, sand bag. Dimensions variable. For this exhibition at Jaus, Los Angeles, I recreated half of my living room in mirror image in the gallery. This installation was conceived as the housing bubble was bursting and completed after the collapse and took its cue from the notion of “staging” wherein homes are emptied of their personal identities and re-articulated so that future buyers can more easily envision themselves in them. The elements blur the line between flattened renderings and dimensional objects, between the thing and its representation, between fantasy and reality. >>About Charmaine Felix-Meyer

"Image Caption for JPG#2". My Halloween costumes feature wacky headdresses - a giant rat, homemade Medusa wig, manikin leg, etc. In grad school I started painting myself this totem-esque way, as in "Carmen Miranda Still Life" (2009 oil/linen 40" x 30") - influenced by Flemish portraits as well. While commissioned portraits show people in their best light, self-portraits show painters in a state of concentration; the bright, motley objects here offer a counterpoint. >>About Margaret McCann
