This is a billboard we put up @ Spotwelders' court
This is a billboard we put up @ Spotwelders' courtyard in Venice, CA last year. (Thanks to owner David Glean, it's still up) about the BIG BANKS—& Wall Street in general— precipitating the 2008 financial crisis. 4 CEO's of major American investment banks, swearing to tell the truth to a Congressional investigating committee. Because their predatory lending practices put so many mortgages "under water," and because we, the people, desperately need an avenging superhero, this giant Pacific Red Octopus volunteered to "help out." Seen here applying a little muscle and some giggling payback to those bad men—underwater! In Atlantis, maybe? Forever. That'd be a sweet retirement village for them. (l to r: Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs. Jamie Dimon,JPMorgan Chase. John Mack, COB, Morgan Stanley. Brian Moynihan, Bank of America).

Emanations of the House, 2012. Ink and gesso on linen, 14”x18.” This recent work is based on House on a table, a drawing I did when I was about nine years old, of a woman in medieval costume, standing near a low table with a house on it. It’s an homage to the richness of my childhood imagination and to the responsibilities of maintaining family histories that mean something to me.

RELAXING BY SOME GOOD NEWS, 52 x 66
RELAXING BY SOME GOOD NEWS, 52 x 66", oil on canvas, 2013 The solid, well-described, present young man faces the flow toward the future, undefined at the right edge of the painting. The past decays under the new good news and drips into the stream. The creek alters the past to blend with the present. My Los Angeles solo exhibits were at ACME and at Carl Berg Gallery. In 2012 I was in the exhibit, TO LIVE AND PAINT IN LA, at the Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA. More information and images: thomaswhittakerkidd.com
