So I made an appointment with a psychic. She called the morning of our appointment to cancel because, she said, something unexpected came up. I still rescheduled. Am I crazy?
Is there such a thing as a psychic who can charge by the hour and tell you what is going to happen in your life? I tend to think not. I have had psychic experiences in my life but they came out of the blue. I could not have planned or charged for them, and I felt they were due to my deep connection with another human being.
I believe that there is much more to the universe than what we can perceive through our 5 senses. I also believe that there is such a thing as mental telepathy, where you can transmit what you are thinking and it can be picked up without words, e-mails, texts or twitters. I have had that experience many times with people I am close to.
I also know that if someone is looking at me, I can feel that from across the room. I didn't perceive it with one of my five senses, but I know it is happening in some other way. When I look over, sure enough, that person is looking at me. How did I know?
So what do you think? Should you go pay someone to tell your future, or are they full of it? Do some people have more psychic ability than others, or do we all have it and just either ignore it, or refuse to believe and develop it?

When I went to see the psychic, she picked up some things about some loved ones who had passed. She said my Mother wanted to know where the blue diamond was. She was upset about the missing blue diamond. I had no idea what she was talking about. I later asked my Grandmother, my Mother's Mother, if she knew what that meant. She said my Mom had owned a little gold band with a tiny diamond in it that was a rare blue diamond. I got this ring after she died and wore it all the time. One day I was reaching up to get something and noticed that the diamond had come out of the setting. It was so tiny, there was no way to find it. That had happened several years prior to my visit with the psychic.
Could be a coincidence. If it isn't, I'm a little bummed that after we die we are upset about missing things here on earth. Doesn't sound like fun. Sorry Mom, I tried to find it.
So have you gone to see a psychic? Do you think there is such a thing?

the fact that something unexpected snuck up on this "psychic" should have been your first warning LOL
I think it's extremely difficult for a psychic to obtain clear, pertinent, relevant information about discarnate humans, let alone the living. Gary Schwart et al have conducted some extensive empirical research, however, with psychics/mediums (visit veritas.arizona.edu for more info.); There are some psychics/mediums whom can obtain information not known to the sitters and experimenters, in the absence of sensory queues, guessing, or trickery, even under controlled, quadruple-blind conditions. So, the phenomenon of being able to perceive information not known to the tested subjects (aka mediums) is real, but only in a select few, gifted ones.
However, with those who do get real hits, it's difficult to determine if it's due to a form of living telepathy or the psychical perceptions of discarnate humans. That's the tough question to answer. I.e., are they "reading the sitter's minds" or perceiving communications from "beyond the dead?"
Broadly, however, I feel that most psychics are scam artists. Not all. Most.

Is it just coincidence that psychic & psychotic have the same root?
A certain degree of uncertainty (in many areas/manners/etc.) naturally goes with the whole esoteric business. That's natural. Then, I read the response that says that a psychic who charges is surely BAD, but one who doesn't charge is clearly GOOD. It just blows me away.
Whomever is GOOD and whomever is BAD is determined by truth and not who charges and who doesn't.
And that photo...well, that's just insulting, kind-of. Who would give spiritual assistance dressed like that and hovering over a crystal ball? Ack.
Could it be mine?
Never said BAD...just "cheeky." Never said GOOD,,,just "legitimate,"
Now that we have this clarified...Swami (yours truly) thinks either you're a pro psy-chick or a regular client to one.
Like you said...esoteric "business".
"poof!" Happy to blow you away..............
Actaully, you're both wrong.
The best/fastest/easiest/most reliable way to spot a phony psychic is anyone who refers to themselves as psychic.
Someone told me that Sylvia Browne, the famous one that talks to dead people, charges $1,600 per hour. Jeeezzzz......................

I rescheduled. Crazy, I know. Thanks for your comment jhNY.
You mind if I parse this a bit?
"I have had psychic experiences in my life but they came out of the blue. I could not have planned or charged for them, and I felt they were due to my deep connection with another human being."
Usually, when people say this, they're talking about how they were thinking about a person, and that person called a few minutes later. Or that person was in an accident or got a job promotion or something. What we miss though, is the number of times we think of a person and absolutely nothing happens. When you consider the sheer number of random thoughts that are likely to dance through anyone's head on a given day, a few coincidences that resemble a "psychic flash" are pretty much inevitable.
"I also know that if someone is looking at me, I can feel that from across the room. I didn't perceive it with one of my five senses, but I know it is happening in some other way. When I look over, sure enough, that person is looking at me. How did I know?"
Youd didn't. This has been tested, scientifically. It always fails. Again, you're remembering the "hits" and ignoring/forgetting the "misses."
The "Blue Diamond" stuff in your session is classic psychic cold reading. If that's the best hit she got - one you had to research and suggeststhe spirit life is pretty boring - you didn't even get a good fake.

Thanks Vic. Good points. The psychic experience I had was when I called a friend and she wasn't in, the nanny answered. So I left a voice mail and told my friend that I didn't know why but I had a feeling something was going on with her Dad. I never met her Dad, he was in NYC and my friend and I live in L.A. She hadn't told me there was anything wrong with him. She called right back and said, "How did you know? I just the left hospital in NYC, he had a stroke." You are right though about ignoring the misses.
Wow. It's refreshing (and highly unusual) to say that to someone and NOT have them get all defensive.
Must be that therapist background.
Professional "psychics" are nothing more than very clever and intuitive grifters. They sponge off the insecurity of people (especially women since they are so much more burdened than men).
Do I believe in legitimate psychics? Sure! They are the ones who are never cheeky enough to take cash for their gift, Compassion is their motivation. If they sense something good , by all means, they will share their "vibes" about it with you. If negative, a truly gifted psychic will warn you..gently with a hug. But even the folks with the best track record are maybe right only 60 % of the time.
Trust me, I'm a skeptic. But I've seen heard and seen things I can't readily explain. Rare as they may be, I did come in close contact. Life is so full of surprises. Why not a 6th sense?
Now about those little green men and their anal probes....NOT!
Any psychic that didn't know inadvance that something unexpected would come up before her first appointment with you is: not near psychic enough to get paid.
