I am a student at a very liberal university in a very liberal city. I have seen all of two McCain-Palin shirts today. Every other person I pass has an Obama sticker on. We are all nervous. Today, history will be made. The question is what that history will be. Stakes are high in this election, and as a first-time voter, stakes feel especially high.
In one of my classes, at the end of almost every class, the professor reminds us that it is up to us, my generation, to make the changes in the world that we deem necessary. Although overwhelming (not to mention intimidating), he's right. Let's get out there. Let's make changes. And let's start by voting. When I turned eighteen this past spring, I became a legal adult, eligible to vote, buy cigarettes, and watch porn. I know that many kids don't wait until eighteen to buy cigarettes or porn. I know that many teens think that the real age milestone is 21, when we can drink legally. But let's not overlook our right--our duty--to vote.
Get to the polls, if you haven't yet. It's our chance to change the world.
