Movie Review Jackie K Cooper
"Unstoppable" (Camfam Studios)

Watching the film "Unstoppable" is like going to church and hearing an hour sermon from a charismatic young preacher. For in this film Kirk Cameroon gives his views and opinions as to why bad things happen to good people. He is on camera for most of the film's length with only a few side looks at Adam and Eve, and Cain and Abel. How much the audience appreciates the film will depend on how much they share the beliefs espoused by Cameron.

Cameron gives a lot of information about a fifteen year old boy who died of cancer. He talks about the boy's parents and friends and how they have handled his death. There are also scenes of the funeral which Cameron attended. Since the audience did not know this boy personally watching his family grieve feels like an intrusion into their lives.

Cameron does come across as earnest in his faith. He appears to speak from the heart. In this way he is an impressive speaker. But this is a film for those who have already been converted to the Christian faith. Outsiders will not be likely to be swayed in their beliefs by Cameron's arguments.

The film is certainly not "entertainment" in any sense of the word. As I said, it is more of a sermon. Cameron lays out his beliefs from A to Z and uses scripture to back up why he feels as he does.

The film is not rated but I would give it a PG-13 because of the subject matter and also because of a particularly brutal depiction of Abel's death at Cain's hands.

If you are a Christian believer and a Kirk Cameron fan you might want to see this film. Cameron is charismatic; Cameron is passionate; Cameron is intelligent; Cameron is sincere. He puts his heart and soul into what he is preaching. Just know it is sermonizing from beginning to end. There is no entertainment portion of the film per se.

I scored "Unstoppable" a converted 5 out of 10.
