The McCain campaign seems to have come up with an ingenious new trickle-down economic plan for ending the recession. Its stimulus program apparently involves spending hundreds of thousands in campaign funds at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue on Sarah Palin so that she can singlehandedly revive the slumping economy before donating her pricey outfits to charity. Yet the McCain camp seems remarkably circumspect about its latest foray into economic policy and about trumpeting Palin's discriminating taste in clothing.
McCain aide Tracey Schmitt thus complained to Politico, "With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it's remarkable that we're spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses." Indeed it is. "It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign." Doggone it, why won't everyone give Palin a break?
At a minimum, the revelation reveals another side of Palin. She doesn't just like to hunt moose. She's a clothes horse as well.

Why is no-one critical of the fact that Palin can name where she gets her thrifty duds, but couldn't name a newspaper, magazine or periodical she browses???

I'm a massive Obama supporter.
Sarah Palin gives me profound willies.
HOWEVER. Leave her alone about clothes. Taunts of clotheshorsery are *disingenuous* and sexist.
Palin went from not having to worry much about "outfits" to the international limelight where she must present like a celebrity.
I radically object to her ideology, but understand what it's like to live where people are deliberately unselfconscious about appearance. In Maine (where I live) well-educated people attend art openings, theatre, concerts wearing utilitarian clothes. It's rarely appropriate to wear designer clothes or even heels. There's disincentive to, because it separates you from others. This is hard for some people to get -- but in some places strong social mores exist offering rewards for blending in, not sticking out. As Alaska governor, Palin would want (and need) to appear unpretentious. Practicality, robustness, and simplicity are valued. Dainty and/or expensive: not.
Palin's performing nonstop (frequent wardrobe changes necessary due to exertion -- men can switch shirt/tie and won't be ridiculed for wearing the same outfit, but women are). Palin doesn't have decades of outfits to fall back on, like Hillary. Frankly....Hillary may've fared better if she'd looked spiffier. The Republicans made the right decision to "outfit" Palin thus.
Leave her alone. Well, don't leave her alone, but drop this attack on Republicans preparing Palin for the world stage! it'd be far more genuine to say you WISH Republicans hadn't outfitted her well and allowed her to tromp around in dowdy clothes.
Kinda makes you wonder what is important to the repugs. They appear to take and take, whatever they can get, wherever they can. No wonder the economy is in the dumper, someone's got to give and it appears that it will continue beig the middle class and working class. No news there.
Tracy Schmidt needs to understand the principle of this issue. The fact that many people won't be able to afford to give their kids Christmas gifts because they are unemployed is a lot more important than Sarah's clothing. It just shows how Sarah abuses the system. She bills her state to take her kids on the road with her. Questions should be asked how her home in Wasilla was built. She allows the RNC to buy her clothing. It just shows what kind of person she is.
It's become important in Republican corners to have your clothes fitted this campaign to demonstrate that, unlike their main opponent, they do not occupy empty suits.
