Americans need to send a sarcastic thank you to the Pentagon for their gifts of unwarranted war propaganda. Whether you are an anti-war activist or a pro-Afghan war cheerleader, everyone needs to be aware of our collective canard.

The war gag is over. The truth curtain has fallen. The gig is up.

Anyone with careful eye sees the war in Afghanistan is not going as smoothly as previously advertised. President Obama cheered for a 2011 exit date, yet anyone with a kindergarten education in Counter Insurgency knows 2014 is the earliest plausible exit date. Senior advisor to Gen Petraeus, David Kilcullen said, "We need to stop talking about 2011." Gen (USA ret) Barry Mccaffrey agreed with me as we spoke on Larry King Live, "15 years is the minimum timetable for any major improvements in Afghanistan". All the evidence indicates the US has no plans to leave by next summer.

The Pentagons PR teams spend billions of dollars to convince the public that the Afghanistan war is necessary.

The Pentagon tells Americans, "If the military does not continue the war then another 9/11 attack is imminent."

Conservative media outlets continue to use terrorism as an agent to advocate for expansive US interventionism. Giving into the Pentagon's PR teams, Fox News and now TIME magazine, continue to push for more interventionism. Thus, President Obama does not offer much change for Foreign Policy matters. Outside of his Cairo speech, President Obama seems to allow the Bush doctrine of open-ended war to continue. Guantanamo Prison is still open, secret renditions are increasing; US troops are not leaving Iraq despite President Obama's campaign promises and the Afghanistan war continues to fall into a bottomless pit.

Americans need reminding of 7 years ago. Largely, We fell for the propaganda canard of the Iraq Invasion. We lived through one of the largest frauds in our national history. The hoodwinking that occurred during the dawn of the Iraq war should make Americans squirm with embarrassment. Recall, the WMD's never showed up. Alternatively, the famous "quick and easiness" promised by President Bush. Recall Paul Wolfowitz remarks, "Iraqi oil will pay for the war". The Propaganda list is endless for the war on Terror is endless.

With the exception of a few, the media is falling for the same tricks again. The main difference is the operational location. Today, the war propaganda comes from the Afghanistan front. TIME magazine follows the Pentagon movement, reiterating the Bush administration's rhetoric.

Recall, the Iraq war genius Donald Rumsfeld and former first lady Laura Bush's chatter about helping the woman of Afghanistan.

Rumsfeld and Laura Bush claimed,

"Women are no longer imprisoned in their homes," The fight against terrorism is also a fight for the rights and dignity of women."

9 years later President Obama claims we are in Afghanistan for three reasons:

  1. Deny al Qaeda a safe haven

  2. Reverse the Taliban's momentum and deny it the ability to overthrow Afghanistan's government

  3. Strengthen Afghanistan's security forces and government

Obama has broken ties with Bush, yet the propaganda remains. In other words, the Imperial White House strong arms the media culture to follow the Pentagon's orders. Once the media is in line, the American enlisted ranks get to enjoy foreign adventures which high paid media experts never experience.

As a Marine from both wars and an international commentator on the War on Terror, all this media propaganda is nonsense. Its patents fraudulent PR campaigns for the Washington consensus. Soldiers do not go into villages and make sure woman's rights are upheld. In fact, is impossible for an army to occupy and nation bring cultural transformation.

When we get sent to foreign lands, we find bad guys and capture them. The American military is an instrument of power, not a force for creative diplomacy.

Only local people from their own domestic homeland can bring human rights to their communities.

The US military cannot stop human rights abuses abroad, that is not our mission. The mission of the American Soldier is to protect and defend our constitution against armed enemies, foreign and domestic. We are not the policeman of the world.

In boot camp, we are not taught how to bring governance to societies. We are taught how to shoot bad guys.

Why did Bush, Rumsfeld, the Pentagon, and now TIME magazine put up with this propaganda?

Mainly, the imperial White House is to blame. The Imperial White House exists because the US Congress has thrust too much power towards the President.

The Pentagon's job is to follow orders. They are given a mission from the White House and they follow through with it. If they President says, "we are going to protect woman's rights," then the Pentagon gets in order, and says "yes sir." Even if they have no idea how to do it, the Pentagon must follow its orders.

The lesson to be learned from the past 9 years should inform Americans to stop believing the chatter from the Imperial White House. Those of us who have been on the ground at the very bottom of the ranks know what the US military can do and cannot do.

Marines and Soldiers grieve for human rights atrocities. However, this world is not a romantic comedy with all happy endings. There is always going to be human rights atrocities.

TIME Magazine has given a war racket which hurts the American Soldiers and Marines. Its not in America's interests to be trying to fix the worlds problems. As Reinhold Niebuhr said,

Democracy is finding proximate solutions to insoluble problems.

As a Patriotic American and a former Marine, I urge all of us to get realistic about this war.

At the rate of 8 billion dollars a month, do Americans want to be in Afghanistan for the next 15 years? Do we want to babysit Afghans as they take charge of their country? Is that the only way to make sure another 9/11 does not happen?

Realism is hard to swallow, however if we ignore reality and buy the propaganda, we only have ourselves to blame for the consequences.

BOTH parties are now complicit in what seems to be an era of endless wars. BOTH parties are indebted to the military industrial complex for "donations" for campaigns. For years, since the beginning of the 'war' in Afghanistan to find and kill or capture bin Laden, there have been excuses for war - the WMDs, the "mushroom cloud" and more. We fell for those excuses and they are not reasons.

There always seems to be money for wars, but little to none for education, social services, infrastructure repair or replacement, job creation and other needs in our own country. We spent billions in Iraq and are still spending in that country - and despite elections in Iraq over 4 months ago, they still do not have a functioning government.

Have we become a nation bent on endless wars? Have we become a nation hell-bent on wars for "nation building"? Have the military industrial complex and the Pentagon become the arbiters of our future? Have our Congress and administration become so dependent on wars that they cannot see beyond them? Is this how we prove our "patriotism"?

These wars are different from previous wars in that we have volunteer forces. Most of us are not personally involved, since most do not have a family member or loved one serving. We are sacrificing the future of our country by becoming so indebted to other countries to fund the wars.

This explains the big push of muslim hatred on the networks,,, and you really had better question everything coming out of the media.. These folks on camera deserve to be hung with those little smirks on their face and everything taken from them,,,, their traitors of the true "we the ppl" who are asked to fight these false industry wars... To everyone of them smiling in that camera,,, the ppl are learning about you all!

In the United States today, the rift between reality and reporting has peaked. There is no longer a mere credibility gap, but rather a literalTruth Emergency in which the most important information affecting people is concealed from view. Many Americans, relying on the mainstream corporate media, have serious difficulty accessing the truth while still believing that the information they receive is the reality. A Truth Emergency reflects cumulative failures of the fourth estate to act as a truly free press. http://www.mediafreedominternational.org/2009/12/21/inside-the-military-media-industrial-complex-impacts-on-movements-for-peace-and-social-justice/

Could it be the taliban's momentem was manufactured by forces who need to also have a reason for continued American military support? Is it beyond the scope of understanding that Afghanistan maybe a set up for the future profits of many industries in the modern western world? Is it possible that those interests would stage a war for the sole purpose of an unseen future that isn't as yet being shared with those taxpayers providing the American and nato forces? Could it be that the hopelessness everyone sees is just a case of,,, too much time in theatre,,, and that like vietnam their are no winners and losers,,, just future profits of certain American future interests?

Could it be,,, that if American nato forces weren't there,,, China and russian forces would be for the same exact reasons? Maybe,, if all that's true,, we Americans will never see a return on the investment except in the form of corporate profits for the same folks holding back investments in America to slow economic recovery,,,,,,,,,,,for,,,,,the next Bush/Cheney administration to grab high office!

Could it be?"

A good read. What most do not realize is the Pentagon's most important target in it's campaign for "hearts and minds" is that of the American public, not the Afghani. Victory or defeat hinges on American public opinion. This was the lesson of Vietnam. And while so many in our nation fail to learn the lessons that history provides us, the Pentagon, or the MIC, has learned.

----I just realised, they're going to stop calling it a war pretty soon, its going to be devolved to a steadily decreasingly alarming set of titles. It will become "no more than a localised conflict". They'll say, "The war is over, but there's still some conflict, just a small local conflict, and the people there need our help". Then it will become "sporadic violence", which will "break-out" on a daily basis. The next will be along the lines of, "An ongoing culture of violent terrorist activity, which, if left unchecked, will endanger our national security and the rights of the local people will be compromised" The exploitation of the rank and file, the expectations thrust on young men and women, for the vested interests of the global corporate fascists, is criminal, there is so little honesty about the situation and serving personnel cannot divulge anything worth saying without breaking military law. Do not let this continue for one more minute America, never mind 15 years ! !

Almost $2 billion A WEEK. A military budge of half a trillion dollars a year Almost as much as all of the other countries in the world spend combined.

And STILL we can't "beat" a bunch of guys in rags with IED's.

Our military can't win in the jungles (Vietnam). It can't win in the desert (Iraq). And it can't win in the mountains (Afghanistan.)

If this was a truly capitalistic society, the management would be subjected to a ritual slaying by the shareholders for performance this bad. Oh... wait. Business DID perform badly. And got rewarded with billions. Did business learn from the Pentagon or vice versa?

Soldiers have always been pawns for the powerful. The rich have always benefitted from wars their soldier pawns won for them.

It's a question of priority. Years ago some group of people must have gotten together and decided that in lieu of world wars, which are so destructive, we will have continuous wars on a smaller scale to appease the arms industry and everyone else that profiteers, as well as keeping the individual populations in line, and retaining power. While everything is going according to plan, it's not the best plan for the people of each country. Why should we sacrifice so much for so little?
