I often write about what I see as the collision of the two power cores in politics, the aging DC legacy establishment and the new real world of politics that knows that access to information is changing the landscape forever. See here, here and here.
I predicted that we would see some might spin out of Iowa, but the clarity of the results slowed it down a touch, but no one showcases the clear lunacy of a legacy campaign than the email that Hillary Clinton sent out on Thursday night to her supporters.
Did she thank them for their help in Iowa? Nope.
Did she thank the staff many working for pennies? Nope.
Did she take any responsibility for her poor showing? Or promise to learn and get better?
Nope.
What she did was ask for money.
And as anyone who can read knows, she raised over $100,000,000 last year but hey, her third place finish and ability to continue in the race?
But today, I'm turning to you to help fund crucial activities in New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and beyond.Make a contribution today to help me win.
We're not just working to prevail over other candidates in a hard-fought contest for the Democratic nomination. This is about more than that. It's about our unyielding determination to reclaim our country from an administration that has failed us, betrayed our trust, and undermined our values.
That's why these next few days matter so much. I'm doing everything I can to drive our campaign to victory and I know you will do the same.
With your help, we can win. Make a contribution now.
Hillary Clinton has spent over $40 million to date in this race - with a bronze medal to show for it. The issue isn't money, the issue is a poorly-run campaign driven by polling and faded vision.
The issue is that she, and her senior advisors, don't realize that the Internet killed the triangulation star.
The issue is it's 2008, not 1992.
The issue is we know she voted for the war and didn't read the classified intelligence before she voted.
The issue is clearly not money. (besides she has over $50,000,000 cash on hand.)
She, and her staff should be ashamed and embarrassed.
And anyone undecided in New Hampshire should read that email and come to a single conclusion.
"wow, she just doesn't get it."

How can we trust anyone with the US Economy when they spend that kind of money and have a 3rd place showing???
That's a LOT of money.
It sounds to me like her "advisors" are overpaid.
Layoffs anyone? Get some new blood in there - someone who actually understands the current political landscape?
Nay. Not interested in that, are you Hillary? You'll never understand why people like me feel like they can't vote for you.

Hilary said that just the fact that she was a woman would represent change if she were elected.
Why would that represent change? I thought men and women were equal in respect of a job like the presidency.
Mark Penn is one of the sleaze in her campaign that was pushing the whole drug thing regarding Obama. And then there's her guy Howard Wolfson who seems to have no sense of truth about him. It's the same old Clinton machine that's sinking fast.
I just donated another $25.00 to Obama.
A few months ago, Hillary was my #2 behind Obama.
But since then, I have seen nothing inspiring, and some things troubling about her positions and how her camp is presenting them to potential voters.
As far as I'm concerned, she's off the list altogether.
When Clinton started she was masterful. Then she started going negative on Obama. What was masterful was revealed as simply the work of a journeyman pol. To me, she doesn't have a proper Presidential temperament. I still like her, but I see her as an excellent majority leader of a Democratic Senate, someone who will make history, who will master the art of "herding kittens." The Senate is her proper environment, not the executive branch.
Political focus is quicker, more surgical, and more ruthless than ever before because of the internet. Whether it's Obama vs Huckabee, or Obama vs McCain, the focus into a choice is coming with much less deliberation this time than in other presidential years. Thus, the potential for buyers remorse is more possible.
I hope and pray Obama is ready for all that will hit him in this miraculous journey of his. But, if he survives, and I mean that literally, I believe he can win the Presidency.
The grammatical errors in this post were too numerous and distracting. I stopped reading.
Oh, silly me, I listened to the MSM and thought Clinton was running a "perfect" campaign.
It's amusing to watch them trip all over each other to explain how "deeply flawed" her campaign actually is.
Hee hee hee...
I agree that money is not Hillary's problem, but I think her trouble goes way beyond a mismanaged campaign. As long as Hillary doesn't have the guts to say, as Edwards has, that voting for the war was a horrible mistake and apologizes for it, I don't think most Democrats will be willing to buy anything she's selling...
As far as I'm concerned, the 500 pound gorilla in the room is Monica. After Bill's repeated womanizing, his lying and humiliation of himself, his family & frankly the party that supported him, lots of us were scratching our heads wondering why Hillary wasn't out the door after the vote on impeachment or before.
Well, now we all know. Her behavior or lack of behavior that made sense, has been all about this run for the presidency. We've all been there with them. Bill has suffered nothing for the destruction he caused the Democratic party, but instead all the rest of us sure have - throw in as well all the needless death and destruction caused in the past seven years. I for one am tired of them both. Is this person really the best pick for the POTUS? Not in my humble opinion...
I remember that the NYT criticized Hillary Clinton for the financial aspect of her second NY campaign for the US Senate and listed the many ways in which she literally squandered money. Then after the presidential debate in Philadelphia in which she came across badly, the first thing she told Mark Penn was that she needed more money. She wrongly thinks that money is the solution to every problem and that she is entitled to go to the trough whenever necessary.
Hillary's adamant about being seen as a woman in her own right, and as a person with her own political career. Her friends are not shy about hinting or even saying outright that Hillary's smarter than Bill.
However, one of the truths that no one is allowed to speak about Hillary is that the woman she is in her own right (let's call her Hillary Rodham) could not have made it even this close to the presidency under her own stream.
Hillary Rodham might be smarter, but she doesn't posess a fraction of her husband's political talent or voter appeal.
So the bitter secret of her run for office is that, even now, it really *is* all about Bill. And isn't running the popular former president's wife to bypass her husband's term limit in office just a shade, well, embarrassingly banana-republican for the world's loudest democracy?
It seems to me that we have been manipulated by the media and others to believe that Hillary is an ineivitable choice, a foregone conclusion. Clearly the Iowa vote didn't support that contention and I am glad of it.
. Not a leader. Not a fighter.
d..
ot sure what I would do if a viable third party candidate stepped into the fray... as an Independant I am very much interested in another choice and I am rather tired of both the Dems and GOP treating me like some small logistical issue.
I think that voting for Hillary would be like voting for Pelosi or anyone else that represents establishment politics.
It seems like she supports the administration on most of the points that people like me do not support. She doesn't feel that the current administration should face accountability and wouldn't feel that way unless the polls told her that she should. She has played all her votes to her political life and I have no sense of conscience in her positions over the years on Iraq, torture and many other problems..
I just don't see her as a good candidate.
Sure, it would be great to have a brilliant female leader but she isn't it.
I don't trust Edwards... Barack has some appeal and I think his win was well-earne
Hard to tell where I will go but I am glad that it is no longer a "given" that I will have to vote for Hillary if I want to see a Dem in the White House....N
Now that the GOP may have to face the consequences for its flirtation with the Christian Right-wingers and the Dems are getting a very strong signal that their base isn't interested in more of the same it is time to wonder what kinds of choices the future will bring.
"$2,000,000 on polling" ???
Mark Penn is doing well.
HRC IS a very competent player in the world of politics. t this is her time in history. licy-wise. s only learning from these mistakes that she will BE a better politician-I'm sure of it.
I wish her well, think highly of her.
I just don't think, and I hope she will...tha
I think Obama IS what the country needs socially, religiously, economically, foreign-po
I think she needs to go back and recognize the charges of "victimization", lobbying, her vote on Iraq...It'
I and others have faith in her abilities-I'm just not convinced she does-as evidenced by the hiring of a slimeball like Mark Penn.
Who you surround yourself with DOES make a difference. HOW you've voted does make a difference.
Vote from the heart next time please.
