If this Administration Actually Helped Veterans, Maybe our Disabled Warriors Wouldn't Have to do Commercial Work

Is there any greater example of hypocrisy than that Bush administration waving the flag, and in the latest, most despicable show of "support the troops by killing and maiming them," the Bush White House-endorsed "Freedom's Watch" ad?

Here is the ad:

Now, here's an idea of what George Bush and his frigging draft-dodging friends ought to be raising money and working for.

1. How about putting someone competent at the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs? The last guy ran the place into the ground and, as my friend Bobby Muller noted, was the perfect example of someone going from "patronage to pathetic" in one short step.

2. Then, how about funding the VA? The shortfalls are in the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Where do we see examples of this shortfall? How about Walter Reed? How about Army suicides? How about my friend Max Cleland having to rely on volunteer help to get around? I mean, god damn it, if our country can't take care of Max, wtf?

3. Here's another short-term opportunity, courtesy of Bobby Muller. Senate Republicans voted against the Webb-Hagel Amendment in July -- this treacherous piece of legislation actually would make it a law that those serving in Iraq for, say, seven months, get seven months stationed here in the States before heading back?

THEY VOTED AGAINST THIS.

Well, they'll get another chance in September when the Tauscher Bill comes to the Senate.

Every time you see this ad, every time you hear about "Freedom's Watch" and the $15,000,000 they raised to spend on continuing the war, take a moment and send someone this post and let's hold these bastards feet to the fire.

Draft dodging hypocrites. Every single one of them.

P.S. - I pray the soldier in this ad got at least $50,000 to appear in it because that's what John O'Neill got for "media training reimbursement" from the Swifties in 2004. And this soldier deserves more than that -- way more.

this ad is just like swiftboat. it could be a major component of another democratic presidential defeat.

you've all seen the ad. the above strategy of bringing up lack of support for veterans by bushco will not work. you will lose unless you attack the guy in the ad. read dan westin's book or interview at fire dog lake on political language and you will find out why.
refer to him by his first name- let's say it's bob: "bob is pleading that trillions more be spent, thousands more die and are maimed, and this failure drag on for years so he doesn't feel he lost his legs in vain. well, bob, that-finally- is the sacrifice that is too great. you went through this because your president made a mistake. nothing will change that. no matter how many lives are lost and ruined. it is a mistake. you are asking, basically, that more people be killed and that is something that we cannot provide you." or something. this devastating ad cannot be contravened by a general discussion of veterans benefits- make no mistake about that.

Veterans Benefits, no, you are right abou that. What we need to do is take care of our troops and our veterans, both. And the best way to do that is to take the Billions of dollars being spent a month in Iraq, remove it from the military (unless they spend it to bring the troops home) and spend it on the veterans benefits, and on active duty personell in the states. And while you're at it, you will have enough left over to provide reasonable healthcare for every man, woman, and child in the United States.
