Jack Murtha Kicks Ass

Tuesday night in Washington, D.C., Andy Stern and the good folks at SEIU held a wonderful book party on their roof deck for Arianna. There were lots of highlights from the evening, like a live perfomance of the "Fearless" song, but my personal top-of-the-charts experience was spending a few minutes with Congressman Jack Murtha.

Jack Murtha is the truth. The absolute real deal Democrat we need. Standing by him, and listening as he talked about everything from visiting wounder soldiers at Walter Reed, "I go there and see those kids and it breaks your damm heart" to discussing Vice President Cheney and Karl Rove, " I'm not going to let Dick Five Deferment Cheney tell me what to do. And there's Karl Rove sitting on his fat backside in an air conditioned preaching 'stay the course."

Jack Murtha has had enough of people not saying what they think. "It pisses me off." He loves the Huffington Post but when Arianna first suggested he post there, a top Democratic leader warned him not to. Let's just say he disagreed with her premise.

I wondered about writing this post. This was a quasi-private conversation with Congressman Murtha, shared with fellow fans who wandered in and out of it. So I looked up the 'on-the-record' comments and compared them to the 'off-the-record' comments, and we have an exact match. The quotes are from our conversation, and they are also from Congressman Murtha's conversations with journalists over the past year.

With Jack Murtha what you see is what you get.

What I see is a genuine American hero who is telling it like it is. He truly loves every soldier wearing the uniform, and every veteran who has worn it. End of story.

And you know what? We're damm lucky we got him.
