James Nachtwey is considered by many to be the greatest photojournalist of recent decades and has devoted his life to documenting wars, conflicts and critical social issues. He has worked on extensive photographic essays in over 30 countries around the world, including his recent TED Prize wish project on XDRTB (extreme drug resistant tuberculosis). The TED Prize is awarded annually to three exceptional individuals who each receive $100,000 and are granted one wish to change the world. Nachtwey's wish was to raise awareness about this virulent, mutated strain of traditional TB existent in 49 countries and responsible for over 20,000 preventable deaths each year.
