Why are we so surprised that Hilary Clinton has a heart? She answered a question, at the end of a juggernaut of campaigning with a simple unplanned moment of truth. Her obvious love for our country, of the true sacrifice a public servant makes and the one overlooked and biggest reason one would want to hear from a candidate, that they care, that they are grateful for the life they have been given by others who served before them.
It was a real moment, tears or not, and it seemed to cut through the bullshit that accompanies most answers on the campaign trail.
Michael Moore's analysis of her vote for the war was that as a woman she has to "be as 'tough' as a man, she has to be willing to push The Button if necessary, and give the generals whatever they wanted."
Why is a woman's natural emotionality, as well as incredible sense and judgment and compassion and strength, a liability. None of you would be here were it not for a woman's strength -- you men try giving birth, something Mrs. Clinton has done. Most of all, don't we really want a president with a heart, a big, open, warm, loving, mother's heart to lead us out of this bleak despair, into the light of hope and peace.
Please don't just classify her tears as a hoax or a "woman's moment". Classify it as a human contact made in a time of great need and I for one am proud of her commitment to service and duty and honor and yes, tears, for we have so much to be sad about and so much to hope for in the future.

If Hillary Clinton were a man, she would have been considered sensitive by crying a little. Her show of emotion was truly not the shocking and remarkable event the media made it out to be.
But Jamie, she was crying for herself. Not dead marines. Not Katrina victims. Not the dying who can't get health care. She was weeping for her own fears that all her hard work was going down the drain because of an upstart.
I believe everybody has a right to cry. I liked it when she did. I liked the brief change in tone of her voice. It was sincere, and everybody should be allowed that humanity.
But then two seconds later she turned into a machine again. A machine who cries because she deserves to be President, dammit.
If you can't see through that, just wait until November when a majority of the electorate will. I hope that day never comes. I hope we have Obama-Edwards kicking some right wing butt.
She got misty with "it's hard" and didn't miss a beat with the following sentence trashing her more worthy opponents. She is a skilled politician but a mediocre actress.
I personally don't care whether she cries from time to time or not.
What I DO care about is the fact that she has moved herself so far to the right, that she's barely even a moderate Democrat any more.
I don't want more of the same.
Obama '08
She should have found her voice after September 11, 2001 not HER September 11, 2001, i.e, IOWA.
Michael Moore's analysis of her vote for the war was that as a woman she has to "be as 'tough' as a man, she has to be willing to push The Button if necessary, and give the generals whatever they wanted."
WHA?????
Brava Jamie Lee and thank you for taking the time to speak up.
I think most people appreciate the occasional display of emotion. The awkward thing about this one is that it's so out of character for Hillary. She was stonefaced during Bill's escapades, the scandals and every other public apearance. Now that she's so close to what she's always wanted, she sheds a single tear, gets a flood of support and exclaims that she's finally found her voice.
Why were there no tears when her hubby was making a public mockery of their marriage and the presidency? Where were her tears when thousands died at the world trade center? After all this time, it seems a bit abnormal and contrived to see her squeeze one out on the campaign trail. Especially when she takes credit for it.

Respectfully, I believe there are plenty of people making pleas for Obama based on race. How about Lawrence O'Donnell's blog just today on this very site? John Edwards is standing in the way of a black man becoming President? I hope you find this argument as egregious as I do.
Et tu Jamie???
You have a brain. I've heard you speak.
How can you fall for such obvious manipulation?
Did you see how fast she went in and out of character?
This is just Hillary's version of Bill biting his lower lip and reciting 'I feel your pain'!
But I guess the classics never grow old.
Hey Jamie, thanks for the upbeat and accurate post. Thanks for your courage to stand up and support Hillary in spite of all the negative spin I read here on HuffPost. Maybe Arianna realized she was being as "fair & balanced" as Faox "News" and has had a change of heart. Keep it up.
During the age of radio politicians won on strength of speaking voice and conviction. During this age of primacy of visual information one wins on the projection of their visual image, never mind the political platform.
That's why modern age President's stereotype is: tall, not obese, not bald and no facial hair: the virile leader of an Empire type.
Is it shallow? Yes.
But then again, isn't that Obama's selling point: visual image and never mind the empty suit.
Yes, Obama fans, don't deny it. YOu know it's true.
Regardless, the argument whether or not anythings fake or scripted is meaningless in this postmodern age. Anything that is recorded, edited or replayed isn't real.
BUT: the impact of a powerful image cannot be denied, sour grapes from Barak's faithful notwithstanding.
P.S.The reason this blog has been posted at HUffbama Post: it's from a movie star.
More mortals have to toe the Obama as Messiah party line.
Oh, puh-leeeze!
A lot of women -- and most of the media -- are falling all over themselves because Hillary showed herself to be . . . a politician!!
Why is she suddenly so REAL and HUMAN? She's a typical politician -- someone who will say, and do just about anything for votes -- and yes, even fake emotions!!!
And this is something to cheer about?? And gush over? And spin -- ad nauseum?
Most people resent it when someone tries to manipulate their feelings. And HC's "performance" is a perfect example of that.
Thanks Jamie Lee Curtis!

I agree! Also Hillary engages in very human GESTURES like her broad smile, her hearty laugh and her holding her hand over her heart.
If you can, please tell her to be her human self as much as possible. That will serve her and us very well!

Thanks for your input Jamie. I saw the video and I didn't see any tears. She got very emotional, but she didn't cry, as many Hillary haters would have us believe. I thought she showed amazing self-control, for NOT crying.
Hillary is a passionate woman when it comes to politics. I suspect she worked very hard to get where she is, and it must be maddening at times to realize that far too many people are willing to toss aside all the hard work, intelligence and experience that Hillary has, for a newcomer who offers nothing but a pocketful of hope.
