Twice The Man

I didn't work out today. Bad back. Or maybe it was a hamstring.hamstring forget.

But sitting on the beach just now, exercising my brain with crossword puzzles, I felt ashamed of myself.

A 60-year old Unabomber lookalike exited the surf and walked past me. Not a strange occurrence in Manhattan Beach on a gorgeous Friday afternoon.

Only this guy had one leg. He used metal crutches to walk the 100 yards from the water's edge to the parking lot. How'd he carry his heavy surfboard? Strapped across his back like it was a toy guitar.

If this guy was running for president, no one would care if his VP was fir for the job, because nobody would be concerned about his age or health.

Every single person on the beach gawked at him. "That's a real man," I thought.

I'm going for a run.
