Whazzup, New Hampshire?
Reports indicate that turnout in New Hampshire is way up this morning, the weather is good. Which seems to bode well for Obama, who benefitted (I guess you could say that's an understatement) from high turnout in Iowa.
Will it be a drubbing? Markos Moulitsas thinks so. But Jerome Armstrong says the race is far from over.
The Clinton campaign flailed wildly yesterday, trying to find some traction. They may have staunched the bleeding a bit with pushback against the misogynistic reaction to Hillary crying, which seemed to dominate the news cycle. And New Hampshire does have a special fondness for the Clintons, but whether their affection for the "comeback kid" will accrue to Hillary is unknown.
The fact that the culinary workers in Nevada are going to go for Obama (as Tim Russert reported this morning) is bad news for Clinton. She needed Nevada and probably won't take it now, and South Carolina is sure to be a rout.
Meanwhile, Edwards is the only candidate who has been consistently climbing in the national polls since before the Iowa caucuses. As FlaDem points out, Obama's bounce is predictable for anyone who won Iowa -- while the Edwards rise seems to be the result of more people hearing his message and liking it. (Although having seen Obamamania up close and personal in Iowa, I don't think that accounts for all of it.)
But will the press cover the Edwards surge? Doubtful. They seem quite disinterested in him.
Give it a go, let us have your predictions in the comments so you can point back to how right you were when the polls close. There's no way you could possibly be as wrong as Mark Penn.

You're asking for our picks without putting your own credibility on the line? Wazzup with that?
I've already made mine... publicly..

firstly i predict that New Hampshire will still have about 8 people living there and should not have such an enormous impact on who gets to be president. it is horrifying that iowa and new hampshire have this kind of power.
secondly, the only reason anyone loves edwards is because he is biting dennis kucinich's message of populism and shouldering dk out of the way. if you think the media ignores edwards, please note that kucinich has not even been allowed to participate in major televised debates and none of the candidates protested because they are all afraid of being shown up for the phony corporate whores they are.
how are a bunch of loonies who believe that adam and eve were made out of clay and cavorted with dinosaurs while snorting drugs with gay prostitutes (surely that's in the bible since it seems to be central to their beliefs, too) getting to be heard, while a guy who understands how sustainability, living wages, compassion, diplomacy and honesty might benefit the planet is being shut up?
my prediction is that one of the lying, corrupt hypocrites who sold their soul to the highest war profiteers and corporate moguls will be president. take your pick.
I'm predicting that Iowa will win New Hampshire today. That means Americans will lose, and the primary-less Iowa will be moot by '12 unless I'm the only one who believes it is undemocratic based on one person, one vote.
It's always nice to be behind a winner, if one doesn't have to toss their soul their future, as well.
What I have not heard from Obama at this point is anything tangible. He just keeps up his mantra on 'change'. Is that loose change? Does he really believe Republicans are going to suddenly become 'nice'?
Obama's strategy, if he wins the Presidency, appears to mirror Bush's strategy. Like clouds, neither set of plans have tangible form, and neither have defined objectives.
Jane, I love your posts and agree with you about Edwards. Using a deft combination of Qabala, some re-cycled hemp and my son's 'Magic Eightball' I predict:
morphing into the 'People's candidate for President of the 'Hairclub-Not JUST for Men Anymore'!
Obama beats Clinton by 12.3 points with Edwards making a surprising finish within 3 points of sHillary. Hillary immediately proclaims that SHE has had very expensive haircuts herself...
McCain beats Romney (who cries like a little child of indeterminate gender); Huck-Huck-Huckabee comes in third and sprains his face as he attempts to projects 'Aw Shucks' and inadvertently slips into the dreaded 'Look Ma, No Hands' mode instead.
Bon
