I just received a cold call to raise money for the campaigns of congressional Democrats. A young man named Donald started to read from a prepared script, I listened for a few moments until he explained that the legislation the Democrats wanted to pass through the House would "make things better for you and I."

After nearly eight years of the Great Decider, with his legendary malapropisms and awful grammar, would it be too much for the DNC and its minions to wow the electorate with some decent grammar? Can we please go on record as the party of good English as well as good policy??

That would be a huge step forward for mankind. The conventions of grammar, whilst they do mutate and have some flexibility, are akin to the laws of society. Sloppy grammar implies a sloppy understanding of other laws such as the laws of the Constitution. The person who wrote and approved Donald's cold-call speech should be sent back to grade school.

Rock on. Total agreement here. Though language is a thing in constant flux, ignoring the rules of grammar in a professional presentation - be it a cold call, magazine editorial, advertisement or what have you - just makes it look like you're not trying. Oh, where are good editors when you need them?

Ironically, you left no space between the word "sloppy" and the period that precedes it.

Please do not banish me for daring to speak truth to power and also trying to post my URL, which looks like it won't work from the preview. I just want to be rich and famous.
