When Did Republicans Become Wimps?

Posted: 07/18/2012 1:29 pm

When did Republicans become such wimps? If Barack Obama's not careful, he's going to get a call from Ann Romney to get him to stop picking on her boy.

Republicans should have known better. You keep calling out Barack Obama for Chicago-style politics, and eventually he's going to act like a Chicago pol. No more the process-oriented compromiser-in-chief. Now it's Dirty Barry, and Democrats are feeling lucky.

Obama's latest attack ad basically says that if corporations are people, then Bain Capital committed treason. This is the ad in which Mitt Romney sings "America the Beautiful" while we see a thundering denunciation of Romney's record of outsourcing jobs and hiding his money in foreign banks and tax shelters. It might be the meanest ad since Lyndon Johnson said Barry Goldwater was going to blow up the world, and every word of Obama's ad is true even if Romney's singing is a little off key.

Romney's team tried to change the subject by accusing Obama of trying to change the subject and even demanded an apology that he very quickly did not get. All Romney's response proved was that Hunter S. Thompson's axiom that "true happiness in politics is a wide open hammer-shot on a poor bastard who knows he's trapped, but can't flee" were the truest words ever written about politics.

When Ari Fleischer complained on CNN that Obama was being too rough, Paul Begala could barely contain his glee: "I'm heartened if we've gone from toothless in Ari's eyes to ruthless. I'd rather be tough. These are tough times."

This has been a heady week for Democrats. We're used to flinching when Republicans walk by us in the lunchroom. We're used to negotiating the terms of our own beating and calling it a success. The Democratic Party I grew up in thought nominating the likes of John Kerry would butch us up a little. We thought triangulation was a really clever strategy of aggressive appeasement. And for a while, all Obama was accomplishing in reaching more than half way to work with Republicans is that he gave them a series of clean shots at him.

All of a sudden the shoe is in the other mouth. Republicans can't start in on their talking points without qualifying that, yes, of course Romney should release his darn tax returns. When did moderation in defense of their nominee become a virtue?

The virulent strain of offended sensibilities has infected even that most manly of paragons, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who talked himself into a wet sack on Tuesday when he said, "I'm all for transparency" and then spent the rest of the day denying this had anything to do with Romney's tax returns.

It's strange to see Perry so emasculated. This is a guy so avowedly and showily cocky that he jogs with a laser-sighted .380 Ruger loaded with hollow-point bullets "because he is afraid of snakes," according to the AP, even though hollow-point bullets are as effective against snakes as sarcasm.

Now even our pretend cowboy of a governor is whining about the way that colonial socialist is pushing him around during recess. When Obama came to Texas this week for fundraising trips, Perry whined that Attorney General Eric Holder was picking on him for pointing out that his nifty new poll tax would force thousands of Hispanic voters to spend money to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

"In labeling the Texas voter ID law as a 'poll tax,' Eric Holder purposefully used language designed to inflame passions and incite racial tension. It was not only inappropriate, but simply incorrect on its face," Perry charged.

Oh, the horror. How dare those Obama guys use rough language? Golly! Also, heck! So Governor Gunslinger did what Republicans do these days. He demanded an apology.

"The president should apologize for Holder's imprudent remarks and for his insulting lawsuit against the people of Texas," said Perry.

On Tuesday Obama parked his big airplane with the presidential seal right in Perry's back yard and spoke to packed houses in San Antonio and in Austin. He raised millions more to attack Romney's business credentials and left later that night -- without making a single apology.

This is not the Democratic Party we're used to.

'They tried that with GWHB and that didn't work out so well for them"

Governor Romney, George Bush had a lifetime of national and political achievements.

He was shot down as a pilot in WW2.

He was the Drug Czar, the Vice President and at one point the CIA.

Governor Romney (to do a Bentsen) .. I know George WH Bush, George WH Bush is a friend of mine, and you sir, are no George GW Bush.

In 2008 Obama ran masquerading as a post-partisan, post-racial President who would unite everybody. It was a scam. He has never been anything other than a Chicago thug. Look at his crooked deal with Tony Rezco. He was only elected to the Illinois Senate because he had all the other Democrat candidates thrown off the ballot over technicalities, (such as the person collecting signatures was not a registered voter.) He had NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS before becoming President. He has been the MOST hyper-partisan, divisive President we have ever had. Despite the incessant historical revisionism of the Democrats playing the blame game (that’s their style and it has worked for them with their feeble-minded and uninformed base), there was NO LEGISLATION passed by Bush administration that led to the financial collapse of September 2008. On the other hand, there were plenty of Democrats responsible for creating this financial house of cards, including FDR, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barney Frank. They supported legislation which FORCED banks to lend to people who didn’t qualify for loans, just because they were poor or minorities. Barney Frank opposed efforts by the Bush Administration to increase oversight over Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae. As for singing, that’s the one thing that Obama has done well. He really missed his vocation. It sure beats HIS constant whining and blaming everything on others instead of taking responsibility for the failure of his own policies. He'll go down as THE WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY.

Historically laughable. And fairly obvious there are no American History books in your library.

Instead of taking potshots, where is your evidence Mr. History? In the words of Dana Perino "I would ask you to go back and look…what specific regulation did they want that we blocked? What specific regulation did we eliminate?” (crickets chirping)...... I though so.

Vote for the man who knows how badly republican policy affected our economy in SEPT 2008. Vote for the man who defends honest Americans from Tea Party Attacks. Do NOT vote for Cretins like Romney.

After the paragons of patriotism decided decorated Viet Nam vets weren't real heros, while their VP took six deferments and their president partied hardy in the air guard, Democrats finally said,"Enough!" No longer wil the gop lie with impunity against Democrats and think they will get away with it. Funny, how when the table are turned, they do act like the spoiled children thay have been all along.

They spend more than four years calling Obama a socialist, Muslim terrorist who lied about his birthplace and consorted with terrorists.

And now they're shocked--shocked!--by his hard-hitting Bain Capital ad that demonstrates Mitt Romney is a Vampire capitalist sucking the lifeblood out of the American economy and storing its treasure overseas. It's just so mean to tell the truth about Lord Mittens!

GIve me a break please.

Indeed, Mr. Stanford, but, in my heart, I think I always suspected that El Presidente could throw a mean punch if he got backed into a tight enough corner. This is the thing to always remember about nice guys anywhere: when you push them to a certain point, you are going to wish that you had left well-enough alone instead of getting your clock cleaned.

Obama's Apology Tour of Europe never happened, no matter how often Romney lies about it, and his Apology Tour of pitiful Republicans isn't going to happen either. So there.

Mitt's singing is a little off key?! How about it is a lot off key. It's down right painful. His singing is birth control in full force. President Obama's singing will cause a baby boom. Even an elderly woman (with dementia) in a nursing says Mitt sings off key. Ovey, she says.

It's about time the Dems start throwing punches back and hit hard. When the Repubs hit back, then they should hit back harder. My mom told me never kick a man when he is down. In this case, kick him. It's way over due.
