Jay Douglas’s, education and experience is a mixture of art and science that spans disciplines from engineering to playwriting. He has B.S. and M.S. Degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, as well as an M.F.A. in screenwriting and a Ph.D. in film and television critical studies. He currently teaches screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Since 1995, Jay has taught college-level courses in film, television, digital media, website design, communications, advertising, and physics. Within the academic community, he’s written about the changing nature of storytelling, including a Ph.D. dissertation on how computers, video games, and artificial intelligence are affecting traditional storytelling. The material in Everything You Need to Write Great Essays You Can Learn from Watching Movies was drawn from his 15 years’ experience conducting essay-writing workshops for high school students in California, Hawaii, and Idaho, plus the thousands of hours he’s devoted to teaching college student how to write screenplays and academic papers.
