On Lost: "The Little Prince"

Jin has had a pretty bad day, but he is still alive!

And the best guy to hang out with on a time slipping, mysterious, monster inhabited island is...? That's right, the hunky, wise-cracking Sawyer. Sawyer's line in last night's episode, "Time travel's a bitch!" was the best line of the season. I bet all of the viewers must have been shouting, "Amen Sawyer!" I know I did.

"The Little Prince" was a surprisingly good episode. Lately Kate-centric episodes haven't been doing much for me, because her character hasn't really had the same great development as some of the others have had as of late. I think the thing that made this episode -- and the season thus far -- really work is that even though there might be a certain focus on one character, there's that same feeling of a Season 1 episode. We've got multiple stories being intertwined and it's been put into overdrive this season.

The Island story was great yet again (JIN IS ALIVE!) and as an added bonus we are going to get Rousseau's back-story. We also now know that out of our castaways, Charlotte has spent the most time on the island with Miles and Juliet trailing right behind. Also, who are these new "Other-Others" -- new castaways or a whole new set of baddies?

The Oceanic Six seem to be coming together a lot faster than I thought they would. But hey, with only 70 hours they better. I just cant shake this feeling that all of these rifts aren't going to heal back together just yet. It seems too soon for them to all be on the same team.

There were a lot of easter eggs in this episode so I want to break them down:

The Numbers!: Sayid was unconscious for 42 hours. Kate's address was 42 Panorama St. and the slip number at the Long Beach Marina was 23.

The Little Prince: The French word written on the can that Locke kicked over was "besixdouze." 46610 Besixdouze is the name of an asteroid discovered in 1993 that served as a tribute to the story "The Little Prince." In the story, the 'Little Prince' character lived on an asteroid called B612. B-6-12 is pronounced "besixdouze" in French. Looks like the episode's title has a deeper meaning than meets the eye.

Ben's creepy ride: Ben's "Locke Transport" van had the words "Canton Rainier" on it. Those words are an anagram for "reincarnation." Are we getting clues to the fate of our beloved John Locke?

Last night gave us another great chapter in the show. What did you guys think? Like or dislike the big reveals? Post your thoughts in the comments below.

This is all Greek to me. I only watched a couple of episodes when the show first aired and now I'm totally lost.

what I'm kind of glad to see was the speed at which Ben is collecting up the Oceanic 6...I was kind of dreading some long haul getting everyone back to the island...but hey they got 5 out 6 already..

I couldn't agree more. While the story line of season 4 was interesting, the production and editing was a little sloppy (as was the first episode of this season). Last night definitely reminded me of the first season--the single character focus, the unforced emotion, the slow development throughout the episode. Last season had some significant events that should have evoked emotion from me (i.e. Jin 'dying'), but they were all so rushed that I couldn't connect to the show. I just hope this new development continues...

I suspect some of that was due to the shortened amount of time, due to the writers strike, the production people had to work with....whatever one's opinion of the strike...there was a lot of time "lost", no pun intended.

Nice review - great show!
Charlotte's story is one that I'm really waiting for....also how Ben has the ability to leave the island.

About the numbers, it would be so easy to just wrap the story up and believe Hurley is a mental patient hallucinating, dreaming all this story up in his mind, and the last Lost scene will show it was all in Hurley's mind, beginning with the numbers he chose for his lottery win. But, that wouldn't be very nice for lostie fans, they'd want their money back. So, I guess the island and the plot thickens and I can't figure out how everything is going to fit together.

I sense a reunion with Kate and Sawyer and possibly a baby in their future. Hence, the name of the episode.

I think it's pretty clear now that Miles is the son of Dr. Chang/Marvin Candle. But figuring out who Charlotte is is making crazy!

Yeh I think this too....even though there is a theory that somehow that dark haired oriental looking baby morphed into Charlotte floating around someplace.

Loved last night's episode--I think that because there is a projected "end" to "Lost", the story lines have gotten so much better. Jin's survival was something I guessed, but being saved by Danielle Rousseau--priceless! And, by the way, I like the fact that "Life on Mars" now follows "Lost"--LOM is a good show that deserves some love!

Could be my favorite episode of the season at this point.

Jin's face as Rouseau reveals her name was priceless.

The Oceanic Six coming together in that discombobulated way.

My guess is that Ben knows Jin is alive and will use that to save his ass from Sun's bullet and that's the beginning of how he gets her to come back.

Then its up to the rest of the gang to convince Kate that its the only way to keep Aaron safe.

But what about "Ghost Claire"'s warning. "Don't you dare bring him back!"

Great episode last night! Funny thing, I had a nose bleed last night too a couple of hours after watching the show and was freaking out because I thought I was suffering from temporal displacement too and I was yelling at the TV... "how did they do that?"...

Great review Jack! I have a theory: Could the "Oceanic Six" be the people on the canoe that shoot at the left-behinders? Next week episode i feel it's going to be awesome!

Jack? don't give him any credit ;) As for your theory I was definitely thinking something liek that, like maybe the O6 take Ajira airlines back to the island?
