Earth to John Edwards

Ralph Nader's sudden entry into this tight presidential race proves one thing, if nothing else: it's time for John Edwards to come back out of the shadows, and into the ring.

Wouldn't you love to have been a fly on the wall of the room when Barack Obama met John Edwards a bit more than a week ago? Not another word has been said about the outcome of that meeting, but Edwards on the same ticket with Obama would be unstoppable.

Even if it means running for vice president, for the second time, we hope that Senator Edwards will recognize that his presence on the Obama ticket will win the hearts, and votes, other otherwise disenfranchised elements, to ensure a Democratic victory, in November. Oh, and as a fringe benefit, it may also result in the kind of platform unity that would expose a Nader run for what it really is -- a redundancy.

John Edwards cannot help Obama in a general election. Neither of them have enough forgein
relation exp. He is also going to need someone
with a military background. What do you think of Webb of Va?

Edwards said bad things about corporate power. He has no future in American politics.

I'd love to see Obama make a bold choice for VP like having Edwards on the ticket rather than follow conventional wisdom by selecting someone like Webb or Clinton for VP. Edwards would bring a lot of energy to Obama's campaign and would take the air right out of Nader's campaign.

With little media coverage of his campaign, Edwards did a remarkable job. And he was the best debater of all of the candidates. He would also help Obama with white male voters that might otherwise look to McCain.

The last thing Obama needs is a loser on the ticket. Edwards electorally and otherwise, is that. Case in point: Edwards has arrogantly tried to play the kingmaker card, only to see his influence diminishing with each passing day. Why would Obama want a wishy-washy Dem on his ticket, who STILL hasn't endorsed? It's over, John. I supported you in the past for your presidential bid (and was on the fence this time, too) but it's time to retire from electoral politics. The parade has passed you by.

Wow... what are you on Jayne? cause I want some.

Edwards is out of the race for good. Its time to let go. And him re-entering the race would do nothing to diffuse Edwards. Nader was just as eager to announce his candidacy in 2004 when Edwards was running as VP as he was this year.

I don't know why you and all the sheeple in the media play into this megalomaniac's plans. If everyone would just ignore this f*&#, he wouldn't keep jumping into a race he'll never win. The greatest moment in Nader's life was when he got blamed for 2000. Now the media will forever act as if this unimportant piece of crap is somehow relevant to every presidential race until fate finally frees us of this human pest.

NADER DOESN'T MATTER!!! STOP GIVING HIM ATTENTION!!!

John Edwards stay out of this race. It is filled with everything that Democrats reject. So many better opportunities await Edwards, let the party find this out in good time. John Edwards should continue to work for those causes which are. "the causes of his life," and continue to prove that things can get better, through love, compassion and caring.

I'd be thrilled if Edwards would endorse Clinton! A lot of us liked Edwards and Clinton, not Edwards and Obama.

You know, the dorky policy wonk types that want to make the world a better place, really. We don't want people to feel like it's going to be a better place when we fix our souls,or whatever it is we're supposed to do.

Nope. Sorry. With the war ongoing, Obama will need someone to back up his national security bona fides.

My choice would be Sen. Jim Webb. A guy from a swing state who actually won a recent election there. A former 'Nam vet and Reagan's Sec. of the Navy and, like Obama, a highly acclaimed writer.

Obama/Webb.

A total winning ticket.

I'd make Edwards AG and turn him loose on ex-Bush officials who abused their power or make him Sec'y of HUD and turn him loose on rebuilding New Orleans. He would excel at either task.

You wouldn't say that if you paid any attention to Webb's voting record.

With the war on, he needs someone to back up his anti-imperialist bona fides - like Kucinich, Paul, or someone like Chalmers Johnson.

With Jim Webb as VP you do run the risk of losing a Democratic Senate Seat to another Republican.

Take a look at www.taylormarsh.com

If you believe in even half of what she writes,
you'd understand why John Edwards isn't, and shouldn't, endorse either one of the celebrity candidates.

I can't deny. Edwards on the same ticket as Obama would likely kick serious ass. I for one would be on the streets campaigning my heart out if that was the case. Who knows, maybe this Dodd endorsement is a sign that he's interested in being a number 2 man. Kind of hard to picture that though. It would be cooler to have Edwards there instead.

My dream admin...
Prez = Barack
VP = Chris Dodd
Sec of State = Bill Richardson
Sec of Def = Senator Webb
AG = John Edwards

I love it!!!! The only change I would prefer is subbing Gore for Dodd, and redefining the VP position to focus on specific policy matters... e.g. the environment. So instead of the VP position being a 2nd rate jack of all trades type thing, Gore as VP could be empowered to attck the problem of climate change in a focused way.

Not to be all strategic about it, but I really think Edwards -- besides being a pretty whiny candidate -- doesn't provide the right kind of balance to the ticket (young, liberal, single-term senator, lawyer...)

I'm starting to think Bill Richardson would do the trick nicely.

why should he endorse or be Obama's veep? Obama's not a fighter, but an "unifier". Obama doesn't want to punish bad corps and the GOP, but to invite them in. Obama only just now started to talk about actual things like jobs and wages and people losing their homes, etc--way way too late. ...

Nope. Check it out, he's been a big proponent of liberal economic/poverty issues all along. The question has never been who is most progressive, the question has been who has the best approach to actually pass a progressive agenda. If you think we just need more of the same kind of fighting we've seen for decades, then Hillary's your candidate.

I had a lot of respect for Edward's positions in the primary. That he hasn't come out for Obama is putting that faith to the test.

What is he waiting for? He should have done it weeks ago.

If he doesn't endorse Obama, his legacy will be one of self-interest not principle.

The centerpiece of Edwards campaign was his universal healthcare plan. Obama's plan is not universal and is very weak--bordering on Republican-lite if you ask me. And if Obama doesn't have enough backbone to propose universal healthcare and vow to fight to make it a reality, he doesn't deserve Edwards endorsement. If Edwards was truly self-interested, he would've jumped on the Obama-wagon already.

Why should he endorse? He knows we, his supporters, can make up our own minds. Really, without him in the race, what does it matter? Neither Obama or Hillary is a true progressive, so we hold our noses and vote.

I hope we are NOT going down the path of the Republicans who focus on who is the most Pure Conservative or who is most like Ronald Reagan.

Please for the sake of the country, let's not go there.

The center has drifted so far to the right, we have no other choice at this point. For me, it's not about left vs right either. It's about who displays more integrity and intellectual honesty.

In my view, there does exist an objective reality - which can be observed, tested, and measured. The reich-wing is currently living in a world inside their own imaginations.

A true progressive would have stood up to bushie and stood up for the Constitution as bushie and his criminal cohorts assaulted it. Neither Hillary nor Obama have done so. They either believe that bushie's behaviors are not impeachable offenses, or they recognize that they do rise to the level of impeachable offenses but are unwilling to do anything about it. I am not sure which explanation is worse. This is not about purity - it is about doing the right thing. It is about holding a rogue president accountable. It is about doing their Constitutional duty.

It is because of Edward's principles that he will not endorse Obama. If he endorsed either Clinton/Obama he would be eating his whole platform.

I'd be very surprised if Edwards is interested in running for VP again -- and imo he could do more good as the next Attorney General of The United States.

I meant "frontrunner in 2016"

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:46 PM on 02/26/2008

John Edwards is 54. He won't win the 2008 election, and he won't win the 2012 election.

He wants to be president.

Lots of people want him to be president.

I want him to be president, I just want Obama as president more than Edwards.

8 years from now, Edwards will be 62. If he wants to be president, he wants to be VP now, because with 8 years of VP, he'll be the frontrunner in 2012.

Anyone who wants Edwards to be president should want Edwards to be on the ticket in 2008.

I think Edwards can be counted among those that want Edwards to be president.

I think he hasn't endorsed so as not to screw up the VP by picking the wrong horse.

I Think you'll see Edwards on the ticket regardless of who gets the nomination.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:45 PM on 02/26/2008

I'll be very surprised if he's on either ticket. It doesn't make any sense strategically, and as much as I like Edwards (he was my choice before he dropped out), it's more important for the Democrat to win. Obama needs someone with strong foreign policy or military credentials, ideally someone who can deliver a state that's not already in his column, or help with a constituency that could potentially put him over the top in several states. That puts Webb, Richardson and even Wes Clark on the list; and it might even put Hillary on the list (to mobilize women), but not Edwards. (Clinton's VP needs are a bit different, but she's not going to get the nomination anyway.)

Edwards knows this, which is one more reason I doubt he'd take VP if offered.
