Read up on your history... the Cold War blunder was turning our backs on Pakistan as soon as the Soviets left Afghanistan. Pakistan's assistance with our Cold War programs resulted in millions of Afghan refugees pouring into the country... a radicalization of many refugees and others recruited to fight the Soviets, and spreading of drugs brought by these refugees. All of this on a country that never had the infrastructure to support any of this.
We left a vacuum in Pakistan that was quickly filled by fundamentalists, corrupt politicians, and drugs, due in large part to the sudden burden the country was put under by our backing out so quickly without helping them.
