Beginning to resemble the '88 election cycle, where any undisclosed Democrat could beat Bush the Elder by a landslide. The Democrats got moving and managed to shoot out every foot they had to come up with Dukakus. It appears the Republicans are headed down that same path this year.

Comment appreciated! Have lived long enough to recognize patterns and this one is thread bare. 1960 was the last time any primary was in doubt. Going into L.A. common wisdom said LBJ would leave with the nomination.
What happened to all candidates showing up, presenting planks for the platform and duking it out in floor fights to convince the delegates they were the best choice.
Now, a candidate is crowned long before the conventions and shows up with a V.P. and they present themselves as the only choice. But they present NO tangible reason to vote for them outside of party affiliation.

Such a sad commentary on our times. Iowa represents the triumph of the negative over the positive and mythology over reality.
