A woman canvassing for Obama in Wisconsin was punched in the face by a man ranting about ACORN. The woman was part of a canvassing effort organized by friends of mine. As we were about to go on stage for Oobleck Election Play 2008: The Trojan Candidate, a friend of our lighting designer who was in the same canvassing group called and told her the story.
The silver lining is that when the woman who had been assaulted returned to Chicago, there was already a voicemail message from Barack Obama expressing his sorrow that she had had to go through such an experience.
That's it. McCain supporters are dicks. The usual gang of conservative bigmouths are inciting violence with their propaganda, and the suckers who want desperately to believe are so frustrated with the lack of believability of the propaganda that they're lashing out with violence and violent rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Obama has such a great organization that he heard about this small incident and contacted the victim before the end of the day.
More as the details come out.

Press criminal charges against the person who assulted her and then relentlessly persue civil compensation. This is how you fight. This is the only thing that these people understand. Give them something to remember you by for life.....a criminal record.
I went in mufti to see Palin at Laconia NH rally day before yesterday. She made no overtly racist comments this time, for which I thanked her, loudly and publicly, during the after-blurb baby-kiss session. Her handlers thereupon hurried her onto the bus ("Straight Talk Express 2"), and I had to deal with the disappointed hand-shakers and baby-pinch pushing Saradulators. They were not amused to have Queen Sarah denied them. At least they didn't beat me up (see YouTube - Obama Supporters Beat At Palin Rally), just pushed me around a bit and yanked at my sign (a saggy white elephant and a multi-colored donkey), about which I was asked at least a dozen times. After my explanation to two rosy-cheeked young-uns (their smiling mom asked about the 'cute animal poster') I was told snarkily that I had "indoctrinated " the children. This, apparently, was not a good thing. My conclusion: Republican base seriously challenged in decoding of visual signifiers. Few sporting the chic McCain poster head-wrap, for example, understood the term "White Elephant", although slightly more realized that the pachyderm was the symbol of the Grand Old Party. The multi-colored donkey, representing, I thought, the ideal of ethnic and racial inclusion, was understood by the jocular wag beside me thus: "Oh, a colored jack-ass. Now I get it." All-white is clearly not a pejorative concept in the "Live-Free-Or-DIE" hea
Shouldn't it have been McCain apologizing to the woman? After all it is his partner in heels and he himself who are inciting the violence.
Let's remember this man has no dignity.
O apologized because he was truly sorry the woman was hurt, McCain would feel that he had nothing to apologize for. You can see the clear difference b/t the candidates
It's now VERY clear who's supporting MCain: the BRU _TES with no brains, and the vi0Iently R@ CIST. First a woman screams "socialist" at Obama, not even knowing the meaing thereof, then a young man gets beaten by a ga @ng of MCain thvgs, and now this.
Only the thvgs are leaning towards, not b/c of anything MCain said, but b/c his rhetoric appeals to tendencies THEY ALREADY HAVE
I hope charges are being pressed.
Why is it we are hearing all these stories of violence and the vandalizing of private property and NO ONE is getting arrested? I guess it'd be a good idea for all people participating in the political process to bring a camera with them when they meet/demon strate/vot e...I mean if you are gonna be harassed by zealous bigots and other non-patriots why not hold them accountable on YouTube if not in the courts.
I think that on the one hand people need to know. However, if more acts of violence are publicized, people may actually be fearful of voting. Also, sometimes people that commit these may want the publicity, which then incites more violence. It may also start retaliation in kind from Obama supporters who will defend themselves if attacked. No journalist wants to be indirectly responsible for starting race riots. That is exactly what it would be. People in the 1960s who grew up during that time period were used to be surpressed. However, the minorities and women of today did not grow up that way. They will fight back because they, including myself, have enjoyed the freedoms of the courageous women and minorities that came before that did fight and die for those basic civil rights. Neither women nor minorities had the right to vote and when they finally got it, people tried to intimidate them at the polls. Not this time! Obama/Biden 2008
All I know is that I hope the police are taking this stuff seriously. Theses a holes lose and they may end up g u nn ing for more than old ladies and defenseless bear cubs.

All you have to do is watch clips of a McCain or Palin rally and look at the crowds they attract and how the crowds react to their hate and fear mongering speeches. I have yet to see anyone in these crowds act normally but am sure the reason for that would be the wackos draw the cameras attention.
Then look at the protestors for McCain trying to intimidate voters. One of the few rights everyone has is the right to vote for the person of their choice and this should be without fear of retaliation and free from intimidation.
The good news about this story is that the lady was only punched as I half expected to be reading about someone being seriously injured or killed like the bear cub.
Hey DebbieinPhx, tell me more! I live in Scottsdale, and would love to attend the rally. How can I find out when and where???
I can't find the words for you....
You can go to www.barack obama.com and go to the events section. That is how I find out where and when he is speaking so I can watch on CNN Live Video daily.
I do believe that AZ is one that may be canceled this week, if that is when you are planning to go, because he is going to be flying to Hawaii. His grandmother has taken very ill. I read an article earlier about this.
punk.
See if this one makes it thru
Nice folks supporting McC, aren't there?

Time for close-circuit video cameras trained on their front lawns. Wouldn't it be sooooo satisfying to catch one of these jokers in the act and watch them get taken away in handcuffs.

I'm tired of rationalizing this inhumane behavior with "pathetic throes of a dying campaign". When this is all said and done and Obama and Biden are in the WH, I want something done about this if there is ANY legal recourse to do so. Can't McCain be brought up on ethics charges for this? I expect some negativity from both sides, but more along the lines of attacking policies, NOT the people themselves.
The McPalin violence/racial inciting going on at their rallies is despicable. It embarrasses me to be an American and it does NOT make me proud of my country. What is going to happen when Obama is elected? What are these McCain ralliers going to do then? Will we revert to overt racism in those so-called "Pro-America" parts of our country? You guys can have THAT America. I plan on participating in the one we'll build with Obama.
If people do these things now how will they react when Obama
wins?
that is exactly what I worry about... i don't think it's right for people to just excuse this kind of behavior - it is against the law to incite a riot --and Palin/McCain/GOP are coming dangerous close with all this talk of Obama "palling around with terrorists "... they should be prosecuted!
I would urge this woman to file charges against her attacker. Who know who else he might be punching in the face.
As someone who canvasses this is scary.
The Mc-Cain supporters have gotten out of control. The inflammatory rhetoric has not helped.
We always go out in pairs but that wouldn't keep this from happening.
I would press charges against anyone who did this to me.
