A woman canvassing for Obama in Wisconsin was punched in the face by a man ranting about ACORN. The woman was part of a canvassing effort organized by friends of mine. As we were about to go on stage for Oobleck Election Play 2008: The Trojan Candidate, a friend of our lighting designer who was in the same canvassing group called and told her the story.
The silver lining is that when the woman who had been assaulted returned to Chicago, there was already a voicemail message from Barack Obama expressing his sorrow that she had had to go through such an experience.
That's it. McCain supporters are dicks. The usual gang of conservative bigmouths are inciting violence with their propaganda, and the suckers who want desperately to believe are so frustrated with the lack of believability of the propaganda that they're lashing out with violence and violent rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Obama has such a great organization that he heard about this small incident and contacted the victim before the end of the day.
More as the details come out.

McCain needs to speak out against this. Someone is going to get hurt or killed if this nonsense doesn't stop. These people are getting bold.
This is sad. Any man that would attack a woman is a punk. He didn't hit the right one, because then he'd be in the hospital. McCain supporters are going too far and should be locked up if they assault someone. In Atlanta, Georgia, my daughter and granddaughter where driving along, and had someone call her N* because of her having an Obama sticker on her car. This past Friday, a woman in Chantilly Virginia had several shots fired at her van while driving her three young children to school. The shooter was an older white man. She believes it might be because of the election, though the news did not say whether or not she had an Obama sticker on her vehicle. She stated that there was no incident or any reason that might have caused him to lash out at her. Thank God she and her children are safe. But somehow these republicans are sadly mistaken that they are being patriotic. These actions reflect badly on America and in conversations with people from other countries, it's apparent the world is watching and not seeing us in a good light. I will always believe my country is better than that and that these are a few rotten apples.
See video with several bullet holes in van:

I'm from a predominately white city but there are many AAs as well. I have never seen a bumper sticker on their cars. Perhaps this is why. Totally scary.
Obama's campaign is very well organized. My daughter signed up for Twitter, and found Barack Obama on it and sent him a message. He responded (or someone from his campaign) that he would be in touch! They are really responsive to their supporters.
Wow, this campaign is exceeding even my wildest expectations for "low."
Punched for Democracy. What an honor. I only wish it had been me.
These people are like the Grade School Playground Bullies...
They don't have a purpose other than to try to intimidate others.
They all think like a 4 year old, that Mommy can't do anything wrong and we must defend Mommy blindly.
They all act like sheep, believing that the biggest bully is the best one to follow.
Hence, they all support the GOP and its band of merry thugs.
Pure unadulterated thuggery.
I knew this would happen sooner or later and I think it could happen on either side. As a woman knocking on a prospective voter's door, it always crosses my mind, hmm, could this guy be the next Ted Bundy? I totally agree with the earlier poster that charges should be filed if they haven't been already.
I knocked on one door that had a large, very angry dog behind it and that had a sign on the door, "if you come through this door, we will shoot you dead." I figured I didn't plan to go through the door, so I would still knock. Not surprisingly, the lady of the house had her hands full restraining the dog and shouted at me to go away. After she shut the door I couldn't resist leaving my Obama literature anyway. My point is, that sign was there with its death threat for ANYBODY who came to the door (I guess they were imagining a criminal reading it before breaking in), not Republican or Democrat. They were just crazy people, plain and simple.
The positive side, though, is how incredibly rare this is. Think about all the millions, if not tens of millions, of encounters at the door since last December.
We need to all write and call into the MSM for their f a k e balance. Pretending that both campaigns are equally v i l e in language or complacent in the face of bar bar ic behavior. They have to stop carrying McCain/Palin's water by downplaying their brazen charges or looking for the smallest Obama incident to give the impression that both campaigns are equally n e g a t i v e. Shame on them, letting the notion sit out there that Obama has any particularly unique ties to A y e r s or that his campaign is anywhere as n e g a t i v e as McCain's. History should judge these f a k e journalists h a r s h l y.
Yes we should. Although, I've pretty much stopped watching MSM for that reason and many more. They simply are not a reliable source of information. Have almost no credibility to me.
We need to all write and call into the MSM for their fake balance. Pretending that both campaigns are equally vile in language or complacent in the face of barbaric behavior. They have to stop carrying McCain/Palin's water by downplaying their brazen charges or looking for the smallest Obama incident to give the impression that both campaigns are equally negative. Shame on them, letting the notion sit out there that Obama has any particularly unique ties to Ayers or that his campaign is anywhere as negative as McCain's. History should judge these fake journalists harshly.
You are absolutely right. I've written them about similar issues, and will write about this one, too! Please everybody, do the same. They will stop if they see how much this is alienating viewers. Say you and your friends will boycott them and their sponsors unless they stop with these false equivalencies!!!
I think a man that can punch a woman in the face with no regard, is the lowest coward imaginable. I wish I was canvassing with this woman, so I could look the spineless coward in the eye, before making him horizontal. This is the actions that the rhetoric of the McHate express incites, this is what we have to tolerate in 2008.
He's got competition from the creep who shot a bear cub in the head, wrapped him in Obama signs, and dumped him on a N.C. campus. There are really some deranged folks supporting McCain.
goodness gracious, I hadn't heard of that one. shocking!
Small incident? I hope the guy was arrested for assault and whatever other legal prosecution might be appropriate.
I've got 2 Obama stickers on my car. I live in Lee County, FL (remember sheriff Michael Scott?) I am dealing with air guns being pointed at me, I see middle fingers coming up, a woman with a pink McCain/Palin sticker on her car who parked next to me called me a traitor and unpatriotic. At a Columbus Day Parade, a whole bunch of Obama supporters were yelled at with fine language and frequent use of the f, c and b words. And as shocked as I am, I just (try to) keep smiling and pointing the victory sign to them....but it is scary out there right now. I VOTED TODAY, so if you can, PLEASE vote early as well.
OBAMA 08!!
As a canvasser, I don't think I've ever felt physically threatened. I've had a few somewhat hostile people, including the county GOP chairman (why his address was on my list, I don't know) and random questions like "are you from New York or something?" I am not as strong as I used to be when I played football, and I dress like as non-threateningly as possible, but I am sure I could defend myself.
I am not one to run to the police over every incident, but an act of political violence and intimidation like cannot stand. I hope this dangerous individual faces the full extent of the law and as much publicity is given to the case as possible. Maybe that would encourage the McCain campaign and Republicans to tone down their rhetoric, assuming they have any shame.
I'm disgusted by McCain and his rabid supporters. What are these jerks going to do when Obama wins? Riot in the streets?
That would be a bad idea for them. I would suggest to you they would probably underestimate the response they would get. In fact, your thought harks me back to a time during the Vietnam war when a much older man ripped a wooden peace symbol off my buddy's neck in public. The gentleman apparently neglected to tune into enough Kung Fu episodes because he soon discovered the error in his ways, the hard way. Wish the cameras had been rolling. It was a one punch knockout for the entire human race.
