Jefferson Smith is best known for founding the Oregon Bus Project, an innovative vehicle for hands-on democracy. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law, he took a position at a top-paying Manhattan firm. Conflicted over representing tobacco, he returned to his home town of Portland to pursue his passion. Since 2002, the Oregon Bus Project has mobilized thousands of volunteers, registered tens of thousands of young voters and knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors.

Elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2008, he was chosen to serve as Assistant Majority Leader and now focuses on building a high-road economy and a more effective democracy. He is currently running to be Mayor of Portland, Oregon.
