The job of the lead official in any sport is to keep the game flowing with equal fairness to both teams and not ever become the talking point. Last night in Manchester that flow was changed brutally by the referee. Sadly, his decision to show Luis Nani red will forever be the main talking point of the game. Perhaps he was momentarily overwhelmed by the magnitude of the moment. If you follow Nani's eyes, then you know there was no intent to injure... hence, no calling for the red card. Finally, FIFA needs to consider having any official who intends to show red first check with the replay officials... after all they wear headsets. If this had happened last night in Manchester, an exciting and compelling football match would have been spared a game ruining decision.
