Polanski -- I'm Confused

9 Comments | Posted September 28, 2009 | 11:59 PM (EST)

Given Roman Polanski's history as a persecuted Jew during the Holocaust, I can understand his panicking, skipping bail and fleeing the United States. What I don't understand is why, once he got his wits about him, he didn't return and face the music. How could he live with himself? And...

Someone in Palin's hometown isn't afraid to speak up!

Posted September 5, 2008 | 02:40 PM (EST)

This morning I received an e-mail that's being forwarded around written by a woman named Anne Kilkenny, a resident of Wasilla. In her letter detailing Palin's impact on Wasilla, she explains that most who know Palin won't speak publicly for fear of retribution.

Kilkenny says that she feels compelled to...

Stop Telling Your Kids To "Share"

I had just started pushing Jules in a swing at the park when up to the sandbox strolled Theo, a petite two-year-old, proudly carrying a big orange drum and a single drumstick.
He put his drum down and was about to bang away, when a much taller three-year-old...

Can we REALLY get the gas companies to lower prices?

Posted June 6, 2008 | 02:32 PM (EST)

Yesterday I got two identical mass e-mails from people who don't usually send them. One of them being my mother! So I gave them a bit more than the cursory look before deleting. The e-mail said that we can really work together and get gas prices down to $2.00 a...

What the hell?

Highly unusual circumstances have doused you with exaggerated powers that affect the entire world. And I think it's gone straight to your collective heads. What are 212 (?) of you doing? Milking it.

Al Gore I can understand. I mean after all if he committed his...

Dear Al Gore, Forget Your Ex-Boss.

Dear Vice-President Gore,

I'm a fan. I deeply respect your tireless work on behalf of our earth. However, I can't help but wish you'd bring some of the determination and drive you have for that cause, to the cause of the Democratic party--both of which I think are extremely intertwined.

Still Hung Up on Geraldine

Posted March 12, 2008 | 06:38 PM (EST)

I know I posted about this same topic yesterday, but I'm still hung up on it.

Geraldine Ferraro basically implied that Barack Obama is getting the black votes just because he's black.

Now, certainly I can understand people wanting to vote for their historically denied-a-voice race or sex. I'm...

Eli Manning, Barack Obama and the Geico Caveman

I've been totally obsessed with the primaries. Last night, from our bed, my husband, John, watched the Super Bowl with his headsets on. I sat next to him with my headsets on watching the Obama rally at UCLA on my laptop, tearing up when Caroline Kennedy introduced Maria Shriver. (I'm...

Dear Sherri Shepherd re: Beating Your Kid

If Martin Luther King can preach and live no violence against people who hated, degraded and even killed his fellow African-Americans and was able to find another more powerful way to make his point then surely you, Sherri, and all of us as parents can figure out a way to...

Somehow I'm on author Sara Davidson's e-mail list. And this morning, while trying to write a piece myself, I heard the little blip sound that tells me I have an e-mail. Because I love an excuse to stop working for a minute, I read the e-mail...and was happy to be...

Ill-Equipped to be a Mom?

Posted July 30, 2007 | 10:09 PM (EST)

Before I got pregnant I didn't give a single detail of life with a baby any thought. It never crossed my mind to wonder how often a baby naps, how long it takes to breastfeed, how often you have to breastfeed, how long one might want to keep breastfeeding or...
