Mitt Romney Is a Hollow Man

Posted: 04/10/2012 1:44 am

I have a problem with Mitt Romney. And it's big problem -- one that extends beyond our ideological differences. Here's what fundamentally disturbs me about Romney's character:

It's not even that he's misstated facts, if they were just truly misstatements. Part of what really bugs me is that he's carefully scripted and controlled, and still he has outright pants-on-fire lied more than any recent serious presidential contender, by a significant factor.

Added to the serial lying is not just that he's flip-flopped; everyone knows that. It's that he has flip-flopped on core issues like being pro-choice or pro-life -- deep, fundamental values issues, all for the purpose of getting elected, nothing more.

What emerges from this composite picture of lying and flip-flopping and position-contortion is a man who has no core.

A hollow man.

A man without deep, longstanding conviction.

A calculating man who will lie, who will change positions as he changes his venue, who will say anything, do anything, who is ruthless about winning in a way that makes him seem empty inside.

So the real question is: What does this man stand for? Why does he even want to be president? Where is his true vision, his core? Does he even have one?

Where do you fit into his picture of success?

My big concern is that Mitt Romney wants to become president for no other reason than because there's a possibility he can win. And you're not in that vision, I'm afraid.

Granholm is a class act.

She has high society manners.

We should all aspire to be like her.

In reading some of the comments posted, I am disappointed in so many people in this country. How unrefined their manner. How underdeveloped their mental capabilities.

OMG where did the mole on your face go. when you were in Michigan it would be on the right cheek then the next day the left cheek and some times it would drop down on your jaw! Plus you sound like a valley girl..Who watches you besides your mother? I forgot you are a Canadian..Like who cares what you think.

I watch her.

She is the perfect example of what we should all aspire to be.

And she has high society manners.

Of course, Granholm doesn't mention the fact that she fled the state of Michigan after her term to the far West Coast so as to be as far away from the devastation caused by her 8-years of Governorship of Michigan. She also doesn't mention Mr. Hope'n'Change that presented himself as all things to all people and hasn't lived up to the billing. Or, the fact that our current President outright lies, almost daily, as he is purely driven by politics and his core is entirely ideologically driven. But, who listens to what Jennifer Granholm has to say anyway. She wasn't relevant as Governor and surely isn't relevant on a hapless network like Current TV.

And you are a shallow women Jenny. You cheated the City of Detroit about $220 million in revenue sharing and you expect Govenor Snyder to pay your bills. After your gangster rapster mayor in Detroit was busted, "you did not stand by your man." You became a republican.
03:24 PM on 04/16/2012
Spoken like a true hypocrite. Jenny, you did nothing but squander millions in budget surplus that Engler's policies created. You catered to the Detroit interests and welfare entitlement mindset that was finally controlled before you took over. Had un American, anti-voter rights term limits not limited him, he would still be governer and Michigan still prosperous. But, no, in 8 years, you dragged us back unto oblivion...

All Romney has to do is the opposite of Obama's socialist agenda, and the country will be on the right track!

Uh, what taxes has Obama lowered other than taking away Social Security funding? By the way, now his spokesperson Jay Carney says they gave us that pittance of a tax break so we can afford the higher price of gas. Nice.

why does mitt run away from his record as govonor of mass?.... who signed a law banning some rifles from sale in mass romney did...president obama expanded gun rights.... obama/biden 2012
06:03 PM on 04/16/2012
The only gun rights Obama expanded was the gun-walking Fast and Furious program which will be the scandal that brings down his administration...if it is ever properly prosecuted. ABO 2012!

One could right the exact same article about Obama. Some measure of postion changing is the ante to play the game at this level.

The difference is that Romney knows how to govern, has demonstrated an ability to reach accross the red/ble divide, and will manage the fiscal affairs on the nation with a far greater sense of responsiblity and prudence. He will check the explosive growth of debt and reduce the size of the federal government, which is the most important of all issues in this election.

The nation cannot afford four more years of an Obama Administration.

I don't trust Politifact's pseudo-scientific pretense of quantification of levels of deception among politicians. Granholm is conveniently uncritical about the reliability of those percentages. Personally, I think big government and all the people coopted through entitlements and government sinecures are scarier and less accountable than corporations and capitalism, though I can respect disagreement on that point. Economic and political power both need to be kept in check in certain ways. But having the government take over one-sixth of the economy is not the way to do that. You'll just corrupt both government and economy further than is already the case. The solutions we need don't fit into the old Left and Right cliches. We need to get everyone covered by medical insurance, but we need to do that in the most uncentralized way possible, in a fashion that empowers individuals, families, and medical freedom of choice, not government or economic powers.

90% of what Obama says is obfuscation or distortion and she is calling out Mitt Romney. Wow. Obama blames Bush for everything and bemoans his fate. Does he take responsibility? NO.
You will notice that everyone that has worked with Romney likes him, not like John Kerry. If Romney was a dishonest as Granholm claims he would not be so well liked by those who know him. In the gotcha game of politics I will take Romney over Obama who is at his core a socialist.

"You will notice that everyone that has worked with Romney likes him"

Really? Like all those rousing endorsements he gets like:

Crap. Santorum's dropped out. Well, I guess Romney has my support.

Or. Tell me when he gets the delegates he needs. Then I'll back him.

Heck, even Bachmann stopped short of endorsing him on Meet The Press this week. It was something like, "Well, if he wins the nomination, certainly we'll all rally around him.

Romney definitely has the "anyone but Obama" vote wrapped up. Not sure he'll get anyone else.
11:23 AM on 04/16/2012
This is total fiction. It is well known that in the 2007 - 2008 campaign, Romney was disliked by all of his fellow nominees, and eyewitness accounts attest to the others gathering before and after debates to interact, with Romney off to the side.

It is further an know fact here in Mass, that after assuring Jane Swift that he woudl not seek the Governorship, he reneged without even a courtesy call to let her know, He has a long standing history of lying and stepping on all who get in his was. Obama is very well liked; even Romney calls him a nice guy. Only in far Rightwing troll land is Obama hated, and the reason is largely due to the fact that he is not the “preferred shade” of candidate. (Herman Cain notwithstanding, he was never taken seriously by the right and would never have gotten the nomination if he had been, because that would have killed the Deep South turnout). That Socialist claim is nonsense. In what way is Obama socialist? He is a centrist, which is why he did not push s government controlled Medicare for all plan, which I wish he would have.

President Obama lectures us on FAIRNESS. Before running for Senate in 2004, Barack and Michelle Obama kept 99% of their earned income and donated less than 1% in charitable contributions. The Obamas were embarrassingly selfish and stingy. Charitable contributions on federal tax returns includes church and qualified charities.

BARACK OBAMA’S EARLY PASSION FOR FAIRNESS:

YEAR ………………INCOME…………….CHARITABLE……….PERCENT
2000…………………$240,505……………….$2350………………0.98%
2001…………………$272,759……………… $1470…………….. 0.54%
2002………………….$259,394………………$1050……………….0.41%
2003………………… $238,327………………$3400……………….1.4%
2004………………….$207,647………………$2500……………….1.2%

Gee thanks. Can you run GW Bush's numbers? How about Reagan's? We already know that after drops millions in each of his sons' bank accounts, the bulk goes to the Mormon church - only.

This from the woman who as governor single-handedly tanked the economy of Michigan. She was the laughingstock among the other governors.

Give me a hollow success over a compassionate failure.

Maybe if Romney ran on an empty "Hope and Change" platform, he'd get more democrat support. It seems to work on democrats.
Let's check on how our sweet little Obama is doing, shall we?
"Thousands of shovel ready jobs..." - Well, not exactly "jobs", but lots to shovel.
"My health care plan will not a one dime to the debt." - Maybe a trillion dollars, but not a "dime".
"The planet will heal itself." - Ok, that's just a joke.
"This summer of recovery will see Americans working again." - I must have missed that summer.
"My budget makes tough choices." - ...and not ONE Democrat voted for it. Too tough?
"I will rebuild America's international reputation." - Maybe when he has more "flexibility"?
"Ryan's budget will destroy Medicare for seniors." - Yet, it spends more than Obama's. That's odd.
"The wealthy need to pay their fair share to help pay our debt." - ONE DAY of debt per year? Ok...
It goes on and on, folks.
We need a president with a solid plan. Romney has one. Obama doesn't. Simple.

I call him Multiple-Choice Mitt because he takes all positions on issues. I also call him Myth Romney because he says things that simply are not true. I also call him R Money because his name jumbled spells "money" with an R left over. I guess the "R" is for Republican.

And after his number one task of eliminating Obamacare (because, you know Romney care is actually working very well in Massachusetts) his second goal (already in the Ryan budget he embraces) is to ELIMINATE the Capital Gains tax!! Yaay! That will drop his own tax rate effectively to ZERO! GO ROMNEY! What's not to love?
