It's that magical time of year in the Northeast -- that stretch of still-warm weather after the summer weekenders head home and before the hoards of leaf-peepers hit the road. And rather than mourn the loss of bonfires on the beach and days spent wearing swimsuits, we're celebrating shoulder season, that in-between time that's perfect for a visit to coastal Maine, Rhode Island or New York. To make sure not a weekend goes to waste, Jetsetter put together an easy guide to shoulder season. Consider it our last call for lobster rolls, lighthouses and the rest of summertime's biggest perks. --Sara Morrow

The Cottages at Cabot Cove, Kennebunkport, Maine
1 of 9
Accommodations at this waterfront B&B are anything but ordinary. At the Cottages at Cabot Cove, you won't find a central lodge or headquarters of sorts. Rather, 16 cozy cottages, all uniquely designed by different interior decorators, gather around a green that looks out over Cabot Cove. Each fully furnished cottage is homey but elegant, and the world outside your door is quintessential coastal Maine. Play a game of croquet on the grounds, stroll to downtown Kennebunkport or have an impromptu lobster cook-off in your cottage's kitchen.

Last call: Get your lobster roll at the (three-generation) family-owned Port Lobster. It's so good, you might be tempted to buy their wholesale seafood, caught right off the coast. Just don't try to carry that box of live lobsters on the plane.
