We need to talk. How dare the leadership of the Democratic Party turn on Hillary Clinton! How dare they betray Bill Clinton! How dare they not speak out when Hillary is disrespected by words like bitch, whore and the "c" word! How dare they allow them both to be smeared as racists, playing the race card! Where was Howard Dean ? Where was Nancy Pelosi ? Where were Hillary's colleagues in the Senate when the Clintons were being so unfairly accused and denigrated? The Democratic Party has a lot to answer for. If we had stood as a party with one voice and said, "no", we will not allow one of our own to be so disturbingly maligned, we would now have a unified democratic party electorate at the end of a virtually tied primary race. Instead we are deeply divided. Now, since the party's leaders have chosen again and again not to speak up, I will.
I am a Hillary supporter and along with millions of Democrats throughout our country , I have been outraged by how the media have treated her throughout this primary season. But what is most disturbing is how my Party has stood by and allowed the demeaning and dishonest attacks on Hillary to continue. This is not the party I thought I belonged to. This is not the party that espouses fairness, justice and equality for all. This is not the party that elected Bill Clinton President in 1992 and 1996 and Hillary Clinton as Senator in 2000 and 2006. That party knew that it had benefited enormously from the Clinton administration as well as the incredible accomplishments of one of the most activist, hardworking First Ladies in our history. That Party stood proudly by a president who many called the first black president because both he and his wife had demonstrated a lifelong commitment to civil rights and human rights.
Imagine if Democratic leaders had done what Hillary did when President Bush associated Barack Obama with terrorism in his much lauded speech in Israel. Remember, Hillary gave a heartfelt statement that Barack was one of our own and she would not stand by and allow him to be so denigrated ?
Women are outraged. We are still fighting for her, and we are ashamed of how our candidate, a woman who has devoted her adult life to serving others, a woman who has been a distinguished First Lady, a woman who has helped her colleagues pass legislation and win races in their own states, a woman who has stood up for all of our rights, has been treated not just by the media but by her own Democratic Party. Throughout all this, Hillary has maintained her focus, her message and her dignity. This is truly courage under fire. This is what it takes to be a great president. It is not over until the lady in the pant suit says it is and I and millions of others are with her.

How dare she think she is entitled to be president.
Clinton lost because she took the primaries for granted. She voted for Kyl-Lieberman as a general election ploy. She assumed the primaries would be over on February 5th, and made no plans for a long game. She assumed black voters, liberals, young voters, etc. would all fall behind her, so she made a play for the middle. Obama sealed up the disgruntled base, and now she expects the party to turn on its own base for her?
As much as the DNC likes Clinton, they like their core voters even more. Turn on them and the party will vanish. Turn on her and you have Obama to take her place.
And exactly why is Obama entitled to be President, what has he done, just so happens he
was born in this country instead of Africa, location, location, location.
Obama is entitled to be the Democratic Presidential Candidate because he has the most pledged delegates and super delegates. He has won it under the rules it was contested in; and it really is that simple.
Who said Obama was "entitled" to be president? Hillary's the one looking for a way to overturn the results of the primary.
do you ask the same questions about hillary's birth location?
He's NOT entitled to be President. He's IS entitled to be the nominee of the Democratic party for one simple reason: He won the Primaries. At the end of the day he has more pledged delegates and super delegates. Period. Even if you include MI and FL. THAT is why he is entitle to be the Democratic Party's nominee for President of the United States.
And in November, if he wins the Electoral College, he will be entitled to be President of the United States. Here's a life lesson: You win contests by being ahead at the end after playing by the rules as stated from the start. No legitimate victory can be had by changing the rules once the contest begins.
"Women are outraged. We are still fighting for her, and we are ashamed of how our candidate, a woman who has devoted her adult life to serving others, a woman who has been a distinguished "
Sorry as a 54 year old women and FORMER Hillary supporter, I am outrage because of the Republican tactics Hillary started in her campaign which has nothing to do with her being a woman. I don't know what news or media source you read and watch but the media has been a lot harder on Obama then they've ever been on Hillary! I am outraged that Hillary's campaign is trying to divide our party and for her possible "wishing thinking" of the assassination of Obama! I am outraged by the Clinton's using their political position to push people around like the Bush Crime Family has done through out this Administration. Most of all as a woman survivor of crimes against my body I am outraged that Hillary is using her gender to take on this victim role to try to get sympathy she does not deserve!
Besides, doesn't Hillary have balls, according to several pundits and friends? There's no female gender discrimination against people with balls, is there?
Lol!!
Hillary has never used her gender to play the victim role; more inaccurate, fabricated lies put out by the Obama camp. Hillary's campaign did not try to divide the party; all of you need to take a beter look at the Democratic party leadership, Dean, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Richardson, all disloyal, ineffective losers.
Anyone who actually believes that Hillary was wishing that Obama become assassinated has issues with "critical thinking", possibly problems with paranoia, or are just downright liars.
Before anyone accuses Hillary of dividing the Democratic party, they had better put their glasses on and take a better look at the misogynistic media and the vicious betrayal the Clinton's have received from the party leadership. The Democrats have shot themselves in the foot again, by nominating a weak and ineffective candidate and will pay for their mistake in November.
A Michigan Democrat
A weak and ineffective candidate wouldn't be raising record amounts of cash from a record amount of donors.
You should know all about money since your state jumped the gun for monetary gain, doing so broke the rules, and now wants to be counted "fairly". How Bush Co. of you. But I don't need to be mean since Obama is in and Hillary is out.
No new warmongers for president.
but she has definitely played the victim role, with she and her husband doing the "why is everybody picking on us??" dance all over the media. she and her husband have both used sexism as a crutch to explain away why things are going badly for them.
politics is divisive, a race like this is naturally divisive, to pretend that obama is the big, bad wolf of divisiveness while hillary is an abused little pig in a straw house is just ridiculous. hillary is every bit the big, bad wolf obama is, if not more.
the "portrayal" of clinton in the press is her own doing. when she purports to be ahead in "every poll" that is laughable. she needs free press because she's in debt, but she keeps putting her foot in her mouth. that's her fault, not the press's and certainly not obama's. if she's upset that people are calling her out for her own words, then she needs to follow her own advice and get out of the kitchen if it's too hot for her.
Shenygirl1
Thank you, I could not have said it better myself. There is so much vehements in some of these comments that I almost feel ashamed for them. I agree with you, the Democratic party has dropped the ball and Howard Dean should be shown the gate.
Anyone who did not understand Hillary's comment about RFK, was not alive in 1968. I understood it completely and it did not have any reference to an assination.
Moreover, if most of these people had any sense, they would see that Obama does not have a shadow to cast and is hiding behind those who will turn on him when the Republicians get going.
"Before anyone accuses Hillary of dividing the Democratic party, they had better put their glasses on and take a better look at the misogynistic media and the vicious betrayal the Clinton's have received from the party leadership."
"...issues with "critical thinking", possibly problems with paranoia"
Jill did you forget previous Hillary lies from Dick Morris http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/05/the_clintons_just_have_to_win.html
'That’s how the Clintons think — no matter what, they have to win. Winning is everything, and how you do it is not determined by any inner sense of values or ethics, but by a resolve to do whatever needs to be done, no more and certainly no less. So, on that day in January 1998 — because they had to win — their campaign to discredit a 23-year-old intern began in the White House. Private investigators dug up her old boyfriends. White House operatives spread the word that it was the president who was the victim. The young woman was an unbalanced stalker.
As impeachment unfolded, the extramarital affairs of key members of the Republican leadership in the House were suddenly outed.
Hillary Clinton began the disinformation campaign. Appearing on “The Today Show,” she righteously claimed that there was nothing to support Lewinsky’s claims and insisted that Bill was just “ministering” to a “troubled young woman.” Then came the blue dress and the Clintons finally — and reluctantly — changed gears.
All these past and present Clinton negatives Obama could have used against them but he CHOSE not to sink to their level. I have no doubt if it was the other way around the Clinton's would be relentless as usual.
An Interesting piece by an old Clinton friend into the soul of the Clintons .How they sought to discredit the intern that Billy use your own word http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/05/the_clintons_just_have_to_win.html
Call the Clinton news network CNN an the pro clinton MSNBC and ask why are you covering for thes 2
Hillary plays dirty and lies and has been called on it by the media. Why is that a problem?
wow what a great read - just what i have been thinking as well as all my friends - the now flag wearing, thinking about going to Iraq now obama - wait until the republicans bring out where all the money comes from - little donors true but big buddles from all the arab money in Chicago - yes Rezko is Arab and the money used to buy the Obama's land was from an Iraq billionaire - and what about the "earmarks" - sending money to his wife's employer and then have the wife (Michelle never been more proud of America) get a 110% increase on her income ($150,000 to over $330,000) - versus Sen. Clintons earmarks to help farmers in New York!! Well Sweetie I guess I am just a typical white person!! we are all racists unless we support the state senator from the chicago political money machine!! I will vote for McCain and all the republicans I can in Ohio !
A vote for McCain is a vote for your children and grandchildren to be forced to fight in a illegal war.
Sweetie, I don't think you want to bring up candidates' earmarks, because that's one of Clinton's worst abuses of politics:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-k-wilson/clinton-by-far-worst-abus_b_84102.html
Clinton By Far Worst Abuser Of Earmarks
Posted January 30, 2008
In the fiscal 2008 omnibus appropriations bill Hillary Clinton received 261 earmarks, more than five times the number of any other presidential candidate. According to Taxpayers for Common Sense, Clinton obtained 360 earmarks worth $2.2 billion from 2002 to 2006. This record establishes her as by far the worst abuser of earmarks among all presidential candidates in both parties.
In the fiscal 2008 defense authorization bill, Clinton pushed for more earmarks than any other senator except the chair of the Armed Services Committee. Clinton received 26 earmarks worth about $148.4 million (by contrast, Obama had only one earmark, requested with several other senators, to help children with severe disabilities). Clinton has been particularly active in obtaining earmarks for defense companies in New York, helping them sidestep the normal competitive system for contractors. She's also raised more than $270,000 for her campaigns from these defense contractors.
=====
So you really don't want to go there.
thank you...deb233...go right ahead and save the black man's life..now that your Senator Hillary has told her appalachian crew what they should do to Obama for her...Help Save his life by not voting for him. And brace yourself for a McCain presidency... I hope you make more than 500,000 a year and hope all you don't have any relatives in the army.
arab money - sweet heart - you really dont know Hilary and Bill do you ? Their relationships in the region rivals the Bush's...
"Well Sweetie I guess I am just a typical white person!! we are all racists unless we support the state senator from the chicago political money machine!! I will vote for McCain and all the republicans I can in Ohio !"
It's this kind of rational thinking that makes some men nervous about voting for a woman.
If I prefer Gandhi to Herta Bothe, or Bill Moyers to Leona Helmsley, or Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton, because if I see the men as admirable while the women are loathsome, that does not make me, a 68 year old 70s feminist, a sexist.
You just cannot ignore Hillary's political character and actions, and when men OR women cross the line of integrity and honor, unsympathetic labels WILL be attached to them. That's life.
Thank you...I am 73 and I agree with everything you said. I would like to extend your last statement about the labels to the supporters and elistist "insiders" of some candidates. Those whose candidates tell lie after lie after lie, and their supporters not only insist on pushing these lies as fruths, but also get all huffy, vinicative and filled with bogus outrage (and worse, tear down the party's chances in November) when people refuse to pretend to believe the lies---. these pathetic people, are risking their own reputations for honesty and decency (if, indeed they ever had such reputations) , and it doesn't even seem to matter to them.
Wesley Clark was the latest to bite the dust reputation-wise (at least in my eyes) when he appeared on tv and hawked Clinton's lie about leading in every measure of any importance in these primaries. Paul Krugman and Ellen Goodman long ago sold their souls for Hillary's paltry pieces of silver.
Wesley Clark is also a lover of war:
http://www.democracynow.org/2004/1/26/exclusive_democracy_now_confronts_wesley_clark
In a Democracy Now! exclusive, General Wesley Clark responds for the first time to in-depth questions about his targeting of civilian infrastructure in Yugoslavia, his bombing of Radio Television Serbia, the use of cluster bombs and depleted uranium, the speeding-up of the cockpit video of a bombing of a passenger train to make it appear as though it was an accident and other decisions he made and orders he gave as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander.
Obama doesn't need a warmonger in his cabinet.
I tend to agree with you, and I'm somewhat saddened by it all. What kind of person can ignore or disregard the constant lies? I mean, I still admired Krugman and still can't believe he somehow sold out. I have to suspect his motives don't have anything to do with his own personal gain.. But I just can't imagine what that might be.
or why his reaction isn't much the same as our neighbor, who is extremely personally honest. She was a Clinton supporter who daily grew disillusioned. She finally switched to Obama when Hillary was caught in her often told lie about snipper fire.
best wishes,
charlie
"Women are outraged...."
PLEASE qualify your statement--some women are outraged, many women are outraged, etc. You certainly don't speak for me, nor the many, many other women who support Obama (or even McCain) or who simply resent the victim-rhetoric being spread by the Clintons and many of her supporters. Strong people, even women, need not play the victim any more.
As far as it not being over until Hillary says its over? And here I thought we had a democracy....
The disrespect/ sexism angle seem like such a reach to me. Let's take the time block since the IN/ NC votes. Since then, Hillary has basically had free rein to make her case in as many ways as she wants, including comparing primary votes in MI and FL to the struggle for civil rights and elections in Zimbabwe. She has made her case as the winner of the popular vote (by her math). She has made her case as the most electable in November according to a snapshot of polls in May despite evidence to the contrary on places like RealClearPolitics that track all polls over long periods.
Most recently, Bill has come out with a cover up theory. THEY are disrespecting her and THEY are trying to push her out of the race. Presumably, THEY are the new unnamed vast LEFT wing conspiracy, which has now wtaken the place of the vast right wing conspiracy. THEY are even trying to get superdelegates to vote for Obama. The horror of it all. Isn't her campaign trying to get superelegates to vote for her as well? In fact, superdelegates are her last hope, regardless of MI and FL.
Hillary has made her case. She will win or lose on the merits (or lack thereof) of the case she has laid out these last few weeks vs Obama's merits in this primary season. After that, can we all turn back into Democrats??
I don't believe Hillary Clinton is a racist, but it is clear that she will exploit racism and fan the flames of hatred and division to win an election. Take a look at the web sites supposedly created by Hillary Clinton supporters, and the racially divisive signs her supporters wave at stump speeches. It is disturbing and, yes, racist. Let’s call a spade a spade. I want to believe that Hillary Clinton would denounce racist supporters and those deplorable pro Hillary sites that smear Obama with false and repulsive rumors, but these are probably the same vitriolic supporters who will protest the DNC on Saturday. If those pro-Hillary sites are not condoned by Hillary Clinton , then she should distanced herself from them, easy enough to do quietly through her website.
The bottom line is that Hillary Clinton shouldn’t get a free pass for using deplorable Rovian tactics to win against a fellow Democrat and the likely Democratic nominee.
Clinton’s supporter, Ferraro, made racist remarks and then had the never to be offended because people were offended. When you deny the existence of racism while denigrating black achievement, it is called racism. Ferraro is a racist. There is no other way to dice it. Bill Clinton assessment of Obama’s win in SC was racist. The former president dismissed Obama’s win in SC to his race, suggesting he wasn't a serious contender because of his race.
The Clintons will deny the undeniable but don't expect the rest of us.
I see. Another Obama operative spreading more "unity" and "new politics".
You wouldn't happen to have any links to these supposed web sites? Please supply the links so that I can see them for myself.
No one denigrated black achievement but Obama sure has made it a point to denigrate Hillary's achievements. You do know she has a law degree, don't you?
You have much Obama spin in your post.
Look, just because followers of Obama believe unity and the new politics means reaching out across the aisle to give Karl Rove a soul kiss, it doesn't mean they're 'operatives'. It's simply an indication of how delusional they are. And, we all know how dangerous delusional people can be to themselves and to others.
To his eternal credit, Obama isn't going around talking about a huge cesspool of misogynists who will discover only in the voting booth that they can't vote for a woman. The persons who would be doing that would be Hillary and Bill. Even more important, Hillary IS basing her pathetic case on the hypothesized existance of a huge cesspool of closet racists, and she doesn't mince words either in trying to attract the denizens of the racist cesspool into her creepy camp of narcissistic supporters. Witness the "hardworking Americans, WHITE Americans" speech.
All of the research I have seen indicates that the cesspool of misogynists is larger than the cesspool of racists, even though Obama has chosen to not exploit these pathetic underbellies of American society.
The hilarious part of the PA vote for her from hardworkin white American men is that this vote was based on the delusion that by voting for Hillary, they would be getting BILL. How feministic is THAT?
The Clintons want it (as usual) both ways...they want to diminish Obama and his chances by appealing to white racists, and they want to get sympathy for her because of the creepy misogynist element. The difference is that Obama is NOT COURTING misognysts, no matter how much Ellen Goodman would like us to believe that Obama invented the Hillary nutcracker.
I see the femininist rallying for a desperation play to get their candidate an undeserved win. When all else fails, try using the gender card to force the issue. It's a weak argument, especially if the only reason to elect Hillary is because shes a woman. We need to elect a candidate that has values and honesty and the courage to make the changes that will bring us out of the blackness of the Bush legacy. Hillary has not shown herself to be that person. Female genatilia should not be a considering factor in electing a leader to handle the problems we face in one of the most volitale times in our nations history
Look I consider myself a feminist and I do not support Hillary using the gender card.
If Hillary's character was at all honorable and she really had our best interests in mind running for President of the United States of America it would be a different story.
This isn't about gender or race its about CHARACTER.
Do we really want someone holding the most powerful office in the world to have character similarities to Bush and McCain? I think not.
(05-28) 20:17 PDT San Francisco -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will step in if necessary to make sure the presidential nomination fight between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama does not reach the Democratic national convention - though she believes it could be resolved as early as next week.
Oh well there's good news @@
Is this the same Nancy Pelosi that's been in the tank for Obama from the get go?
Interesting hyperbole...to prefer Obama now must mean one has been "in the tank for Obama from the get go."
Actually, I was in the tank for Edwards, but by the time he dropped out of the race, Hillary had BY HER OWN BAD BEHAVIOR made it impossible for me and many others to support her. Pehaps Nancy Peolosi feels the way we do. Perhaps a lot of senators feel that way as well, and that is why she got the cold shoulder from them last time she appeared on the senate floor. WHOOPS...gotta HONOR Bill Clinton by repeating his soooooo "presidential" claim that her cold should must have been due to (horrors) "misogyny," because, after all, who could fail to honor Hillary for those mysterious "achievements" that so far are invisible to the naked eye?
[Hopefully, the conclusion...]
Where was that judgment on the Iraq War vote? Where was that judgment when she approved that horrendous 3 a.m. ad? Where was her judgment even comparing her campaign (which is in more debt than even me) to that of RFK, using that date in June as a reason to keep on going?? Slips of the tongue are fine, but truly, making those sort of mistakes, then not even admitting it was dumb and simply apologizing... well, that sounds a lot like Bush to me. And I sure as Hell don't want that again.
Clinton terribly mismanaged her campaign (which would mirror how she would manage the country) and allowed her entitlement to make her increasingly sad and desperate instead of stronger and full of integrity. That is what happened to Hillary.
Get your facts straight, and stop buying into Bill Clinton's nonsensical propaganda that gets crazier with each breath that takes them farther away from the White House. The era of Bush-Clinton-Bush-almost Clinton is fading, thankfully. And, as a woman, I'm not outraged at all... in fact, I'm grateful to have a different (and in my opinion, better) choice.
Take care all.
[Continued... ][And, really, these word counts are ridiculous, HuffPo! =)]
The DNC... the party... didn't do anything to Hillary. Hell, even the voters who didn't vote for her didn't do anything to her. Those that voted for Obama, simply put, think he's the right person for the job... emphasis on PERSON. I would vote for him if he were Hispanic, Asian, a Republican, an Independent, purple, green, or didn't go to church. He has done nothing but take her tantrum-style hits and respond with rational reasons why he feels she is wrong. I haven't seen Obama standing up at a microphone screaming, "Shame on you, Hillary Clinton!" over an ad that was true in the first place. Where is this "dignity" you speak of when you see things like that??
C'mon. Really. Stop blaming the party, Obama, or whatever other conspiracy. It's an election. Even with her fuzzy math she still has less votes. That's how elections work -- whomever wins the most votes is the winner. That's it. And, apparently, more people feel Obama is the right PERSON for the job, not Clinton. She had her chance to shine and squandered it, then comes out claiming 8 years as First Lady gives her so much more relevant experience and judgment.
[Continued even more...]
"Women are outraged. It is not over until the lady in the pant suit says it is and I and millions of others are with her."
All in all, I cannot rationally see where you are getting not only your argument but this strange misperception that it's others who have 'kept her down' or disrespected Hillary Clinton. She disrespects herself and her gender (which includes me, by the way) with outright lies (Bosnia), despicable attacks on all her opponents that are unwarranted and don't seem to highlight what she calls integrity and judgment, and worst of all, her deep-rooted sense of entitlement to the Presidency.
[Continued in next post... ]
Bosnia, Bosnia, Bosnia. Is that the best you can do? What about Obama? Try this video on for size:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/obamaclap.html
didn't read the update did you.? and no comparison and pathetic of you and the person who wrote the story to attempt it.
Bravo!
Well Ms. Jill, I'm an African American woman married to a Eupropean American and we both HATE the Clintons. Hillary Clinton is using her husband's experience, not hers to try and get Bill a third term. She doesn't represent me with her dyed blond hair and botoxed face. She's not a feminist because no femeinist would remain with a man who a documented history of abusing and harassing women. I would love to see a woman president, but just not that woman, Sen. Hillary Clinton. She is a darkness and the sickness of America.
My, 'we're' not too sexist are 'we'?
She's not being sexist, or any other -ism. She's just telling it like it is.
Take care all.
Hillary's campaign is in such disarray that this can be found on her official campaign website:
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/...
Secondly, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and TED KENNEDY are laboring under the GROSS MISCONCEPTION that WE ARE AS DISLOYAL AND INSCRUPULOUS AS THEY ARE. Moreover, the DNC Leadership MUST BE CONVINCED THAT WE WILL NOT PASSIVELY ACCEPT Barack Obama as our Democratic Nominee, and that WE ARE STEADFAST Hillary Clinton Supporters.
SHE LOST FAIR AND SQUARE,
AND THE FACT THAT YOU WON'T EXCEPT THAT AND YOU WOULD LET McCAIN BECOME OUR NEXT PRESIDENT MAKES YOU DISLOYAL AND INSCRUPULOUS
SO LET ME SAY IT AGAIN IN LESS HILLARY CHEATS
SHE LOST, SHE LOST, SHE LOST, SHE LOST AND SHE LOST
DON'T BE A SORE LOSER
Hillary didn't lose,
Obama the Race Card, Teleprompter, Yuppie Kind
Ran a dirty campaign with the help of the Republican Media itching to knock him down just like they did with Gore, Dean and Kerry.
They cannot wait to see Obama go go head to head with MeCan's war record
and say that his community organizing prepared him to be the
Commander in chief of our entire US Army.
Isn't that rich?
They are the ones that are disloyal.
Thanks, ccrnjr, for the link and post!
ARE YOU ACCUALLY SAYING THAT TED KENNEDY, HARRY REID OR NANCY PELOSI ARE DISLOYAL OR INSCRUPULOUS. IF SO WE DON'T WANT YOU IN OUR PARTY IT'S NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR BEVERETT, OR SHOULD I SAY KARL ROVE
