Joan is the mother of Elizabeth and Austin. She is the author of Back From the Dead: One woman’s search for the men who walked off America’s death row (John Wiley & Sons 2006) and a member of the bar in the states of Texas, Connecticut and New York. Joan is currently working on her second book about the life of the oldest surviving death row inmate in the U.S., and their travels together across America. Joan is a former Managing Editor at The National Law Journal.

Elizabeth is a high school junior and an active volunteer at the AlamObama office in San Antonio,. She’s an enthusiastic member of the Young Democrats club at her school. Elizabeth enjoys writing and photography and hopes to pursue a career in journalism when she graduates from college.
