Wear Your Greens

You've heard us preach the importance of eating your greens and now we want to encourage you to wear them, as well. Fashion is having a moment right now, between the fascinating documentary The September Issue to Fashion's Night Out around the world and Fashion Week in New York. So we're turning our attention to fashion this week, too.

We're thrilled to see that so many established designers and new fashion lines are jumping on the eco-bandwagon. By creating eco-friendly fashion lines, these designers are giving us healthier options for our bodies, the planet and the economy, and we could not be happier to support them. And unlike having to ride your bike to work or re-use tinfoil, wearing green is easy, painless and can make you feel chicer than ever.

We've checked out a few of these eco-friendly fashion lines, and here are three of our favorites. Use the fact that you'll be doing something good for the planet as an excuse to buy yourself a few new things this fall, and you'll be boosting the economy, the environment and your wardrobe at the same time.

  • Cotton with a Conscience

Hanky Panky has been one of our favorite lines of soft, sexy unmentionables for years. They're super comfy and leave virtually no VPL even under the tightest or whitest of pants. Now they've come out with a new collection of eco-friendly garments called "Cotton with a Conscience," which are made from cotton that is organically grown right here in the United States. The T-Shirt cami from this line is our new favorite thing to slip on at night - it's sexy, smooth and amazingly soft. Check them out at www.hankypanky.com. There's no better way to help cool down the planet than to support companies that make eco-friendly panties hot!

  • Cmarchuska

For eco-friendly clothing that you can wear over your new Hanky Panky's, check out Cmarchuska Clothing and Marchuska Tees. The vision behind Cmarchuska was to create an eco-friendly collection that you would love as much for its sexy and classic style as you would for its sustainability, and we think they've succeeded. Made from the highest quality sustainable fabrics, this line is full of dresses and tees that flatter every body type at reasonable prices. Oh, and did we mention that a portion of their proceeds goes to support charities like Safe Horizon, which helps victims of domestic violence? Go to www.cmarchuska.com and you'll feel as good about the way you look in these clothes as you will about the difference you can make.

  • Lilly Loves Green
  • For those of you looking for a higher-end option for eco-friendly fashion, look no further than Lilly Pulitzer, who is launching a "Lilly Loves Green Campaign" along with her 2009 Resort collection. Pieces from resort collections aren't exactly a big part of our wardrobe, but we're nevertheless happy to see that people who are living lives of leisure can now raise awareness even when they're just lying by the pool. Lilly will donate a portion of the proceeds from this vibrant, ocean-inspired collection to Ocean Conservatory and Too Precious to Wear, two organizations that support ocean and coral conservation. Also check out Lilly's "Originals" collection at www.lillypulitzer.com, which reminds us that the original way to recycle clothing was to pass it on to future generations.
