Americans used to travel long distances, crowd into town halls or stand outside in the weather, and listen for hours as political leaders spoke to them about their ideas, values, and the state of the nation. Today, we learn about our leaders from the living room, their ideas broken down into 15-second excerpts. The couch is comfortable, but sound bites don't let us experience the depth and full meaning of our leaders' views.
Starting April 21, we can put down our remote controls, close our laptop lids and head to Manhattan to learn about our leaders straight from the source. The "Radio City Music Hall Speaker Series" features major political figures like Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards. Moderated by major journalists like Anderson Cooper and Tim Russert, they'll discuss the issues that surround one of the most important and exciting presidential elections of our lifetime.
Arianna Huffington will be featured at the first of four evenings, along with James Carville and Tucker Carlson and Anderson Cooper. I think it is about time we have true access to the politicians and media personalities that we only see on TV. It will be interesting not only to hear them in person, but to truly engage ourself in the political process. And the first lecture is the night before the PA primary - how timely and exciting!!!
I'll be there - will you?
This is a time when we should be more informed about political and national issues. Take 15 seconds to check it out.
