Johanna Garton is an attorney, nonprofit consultant and affiliate faculty member at Regis University in Denver. She graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast journalism before spending several years living and working in Asia. Johanna served as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Chicago with the Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture. She received her law degree from De Paul University in Chicago, where she focused her studies on international human rights and immigration law. After law school, Johanna worked with Lutheran Refugee Services in Denver, and as Director of the Aurora Volunteer Center.

Currently, Johanna is serving on the Governor’s Commission on Community Service, a statewide body that advocates volunteerism. She teaches graduate courses at Regis University in both advocacy and legal issues for nonprofits. Her most recent venture is the launch of a nonprofit consulting practice, Missionworks Consulting, which she established to assist nonprofits with legal challenges as well as advocacy programming.
