I know the title of the piece doesn’t make much sense, but neither does Coulter’s latest diatribe. Ann Coulter says that Rep. John Murtha is emboldening the enemy and encouraging them to fight on. Her thesis is that he will cause more American lives to be lost and is a traitor as are all democrats who speak out. If Murtha is a gutless traitor (who actually served in the military) because he values the safety of our troops lives than what does that make Donald Rumsfeld? The Secretary of Defense sent our soldiers off to war without the proper protection which forced Army Spc. Thomas Wilson to ask:
"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?"
Rumsfeld’s response was to say:
"You go to war with the Army you have not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time"
How many soldiers were killed and wounded because of this? Is Rumsfeld a traitor too?
We went to war when the administration decided to and not because there was an imminent threat of attack by Iraq.
What about Paul Bremmer’s decision to disband the Iraq army without asking the Joint Chiefs of Staff? How did that work out for us? Do you think they could have helped us keep the peace? I’d say he gets a notch on the traitor belt. How about the decision to allow looting by the Iraqi’s, which has resulted in weapons and explosives being used on our own troops? Donald Rumsfeld response was:
"Freedom's untidy. And free people are free to commit mistakes, and to commit crimes and do bad things."
Do I actually need to respond to that idiocy?
To Ann, if we all just shut our mouths, the insurgents will think they are losing the battle and surrender. That’ sure is a great exit strategy.
