Another Leading Republican's Values Go Missing

Guilt by association is a dangerous game to play -- especially in New Jersey politics.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie has been lumping Governor Jon Corzine and the disgraced Jim McGreevey into the same sentence as often as possible. So you can bet Christie is kicking himself today for so closely aligning his campaign with disgraced South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.

Oddly, just as Sanford made his "disappearance," Christie had one of his own.

Thursday, the Associated Press reported that Christie had removed the "Shared Values" section from his campaign website. It was on this page (via BlueJersey.com) that Christie declared:

"I am pro-life. Hearing the strong heartbeat of my unborn daughter 14 years ago at 13 weeks gestation had a profound effect on me and my beliefs...."

"I also believe marriage should be exclusively between one man and one woman.... If a bill legalizing same sex marriage came to my desk as Governor, I would veto it...."

And now... it's gone. Cornered by the AP, Christie's campaign said the page came down for "technical reasons," part of a larger site relaunch (odd that no other "profound" beliefs are missing). So for about six days now, this has been Chris Christie's definition of "Shared Values."

Please, keep an eye out. If you happen to see Chris Christie's "Shared Values" -- whether it's hiking the Appalachian Trail, in Argentina, or at an airport -- please contact his campaign.... They can't find them anywhere.

Most studies put the percentage of unfaithful husbands at anywhere between 50 and 70. I am sure the numbers are higher among the rich and/or powerful. The fact that Sanford cheated on his wife really should not be such a shocker. The fact that Sanford is a member of the holier-than-thou party doesnt make it worse either. This is a tragedy for Mrs. Sanford and the four Sanford boys. it isn't right for people to experience schadenfreude from this saga. Mark Sanford should just resign and go try to salvage his marriage. The end.
