John Ryan is a Clifton Park, New York native and studies at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He received a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy in 2003. He spent last year freelancing for the University at Albany Student Press, coaching collegiate lacrosse, and teaching religion. John served two tours in Iraq as a platoon leader in the U.S. Army and wrote a 160-page guide to capture insurgents. He received a Bronze Star for meritorious service before being discharged as a captain in 2008. John is a certified personal trainer, and he will represent Ireland at the World Lacrosse Championships in 2010. View his work at www.johncarltonryan.com.
