Still Crazy After All These Years

Just last week, I was congratulating fellow contributor Byron York for his civility. Imagine my shock and surprise when I read his column in today's Capitol Hill Newspaper, "The Hill." You see Mr. York has proclaimed that I and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter are "crazy", dubbing us "crazy Aunt Louise and Uncle John." A conservative pundit calling names? Shocking. That's like gambling in the casino.

Why are we crazy per York? We have committed the certifiable act of asking questions of this White House. It appears that York believes our efforts to investigate faux journalist Jeff Gannon are misplaced. Remember Jeff Gannon? If you don't, he was a journalist for a news organization that got a prized seat in the White House briefing room.

Except he wasn't. Gannon had no background in journalism and was not affiliated with any news organization when he first was given access to White House briefings. There is some evidence of past criminal activity, yet he somehow avoided the vetting process every other regular White House reporter has to go through. Hmmm.

We asked some questions. The White House ignored them. We asked them again. Still no word. So we asked them again. We still haven't heard back from the White House press office. We plan to keep asking until we do.

York turns our persistence into a single minded drive to get Jeff Gannon and lists a series of pess releases about the matter, and states that we have been engaged in "all Gannon, all the time" are are "divorced from reality." We just want answers to the same questions we asked months ago.

His list is misleading at best, as I have been focused of late on other matters, like the Downing Street memo that appears to characterize the Bush Administration's flawed pre-war claims as deliberate deceptions.

Two can play York's game of a lack of context and explanation. You know what? York is obsessed with George Soros and believes there is some "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy" involving him. How do I know this? Well, look at all of the articles he is churning out:

-- "Dems Showed Soros Secret Rove Plan"

-- "Soros Funded Stewart Defense"

-- "Soros: Abu Gharib=9/11"

What about the title of his new book? "The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy: The Untold Story of How Democratic Operatives, Eccentric Billionaires, Liberal Activists, and Assorted Celebrities Tried to Bring Down a President--and Why They'll Try Even Harder Next Time." That's a little crazy-sounding isn't it?
