Tea Party Can Go to Hell? Thank God for the Tea Party

Posted: 08/23/11 06:16 PM ET

As far as I'm concerned -- the Tea Party can go straight to hell. -- Maxine Waters

The Tea Party can go straight to hell? Americans should say a prayer of thanks for the Tea Party. We have a 14 trillion dollar debt, 100 trillion dollars in unfunded Medicare/Social Security liabilities, and we're on pace to have a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit this year. We've also lost our AAA credit rating for the first time since 1917 and we're following in the footsteps of countries in Western Europe, like Greece, that have already gone bankrupt.

If we don't make some big changes in this country, not just taxing the rich, but making some big spending cuts, do you know what the future of this country is going to look like in 20-30 years? The whole country will look like Detroit, you'll need a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread, and our children will have no future because they'll be debt slaves to the Chinese and everyone else who holds our bonds. We're headed towards financial Armageddon, towards living in a Mad Max world, and it's no longer so far off in the future that we don't have to worry about it. Most of the people reading this post WILL LIVE TO SEE IT.

Politicians like Maxine Waters, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama would keep telling you all is well until your Social Security check bounces at the bank and you have to start growing potatoes in your front yard so you'll have something to eat during the winter. Truthfully, other than men of principle like Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, Jeb Hensarling, Paul Ryan and a few others, the Republican Party wouldn't be much better because most members of the GOP lack the courage of their convictions.

If not for the Tea Party DEMANDING that we start dealing with this issue right now, America would be headed to hell on a shutter and nobody would have the muscle to make the politicians do something about it. Thirty years from now, if the country hasn't gone bankrupt and if your children still have a bright future, it'll be because a bunch of regular Americans had the courage to stand up and demand we do the right thing for our country -- even though they were maligned, demonized, and attacked for it by socialists, parasites, pseudo-intellectuals, and professional poverty pimps like Maxine Waters.

So again, Maxine Waters may say to hell with the Tea Party, but Americans who care about the future of this country should be saying, "Thank you, God, for allowing the Tea Party to rise up; thank you, God, for giving us that much of a chance to save this nation."

Can we have a bit of a reality check here? First off, when considering the massive debt, it's important to remember Bush's trillion dollar war in Iraq (which he left unfunded), the unfunded Medicare Part B plan, and the $1.3 trillion in tax cuts which did absolutely nothing to stave off unemployment in the second term of the Bush administration. These are the very same tax cuts the tea party is fighting to keep (as well as a host of other unnecessary loopholes). Lastly, as for the downgrading of our credit score, I suggest you put down your issue of Tea Party weekly and take time to actually read the report issued by S&P. The primary reason they cited was the intense brinkmanship (caused, as you admit, by the tea party). S&P also warned that extending the Bush tax cuts could lead to further downgrading... Reagan himself knew that it is impossible to balance a budget without increasing revenues, and to this end, he expanded the size of the IRS, and closed tax loopholes. Yet no Tea Party "Patriot" today would support such a "liberal" policies.

One other note, if the Tea Party was so focused on America's financial stability, shouldn't they also care about corporate tax loopholes? Shouldn't they oppose subsidies for oil companies and others who have no need of special treatment? Curious, isn't it? They apparently want government to tighten it's belt, severely, yet still protect the special deals for their doners.

This is why I have little respect for the Tea Party political movement. They are just far-Right Republicans under a new name. As with all things political, look at their actions compared with their words. I'm sure there are true grass roots TP supporters who are level headed and care about the deficit and the debt, but those at the top of the TP movement are just using those people who really are sincere to push the traditional far-Right political and social agenda.

I'll thank them when they accomplish something positive and stop just making the political system worse. Making demands and refusing to even consider compromise is not how a Republic works.

" .... big changes in theis country, not just taxing the rich, ..."
And that's where your rhetoric fails, Jonh, because, it seems that everyone, EXCEPT, the Tea Party recognizes that the only way to significantly change the deficit is by doing BOTH: cutting expenditures and raising revenues.

And it is precisely the intransigence of the Tea Party that almost led to this nation defaulting in its debts and the consequent S&P downgrade.

Representative Waters should be ashamed of her statement and apologize for stating she will lead the Tea Party to hell. This lady often acts like the south end of a north bound donkey. How can our elected representatives be so detached and out of touch with Americans? These are the most unpatriotic times I have ever seen in our nation and the ship of state needs a radical course correction before it is too late.

The irony is that the TP now owns:

"Question Authority" and "Trust People"

while the left traded up to:

"Oh, oh, only government knows best for you and me!"

The TP reflects John F. Kennedy with "Ask not what your government can do for you, ask what..."

The TP reflects the very best of both parties. Mainstream politicians (like Kerry or McCain) suffer from: "Massenpsychologie" a delusional social state of mind conditioned from too much power, too much doting from the media and too many lazy voters.

John,

You have inflamed the community with your remarks - I'm glad to see some discussion.

About time. Time to stop shouting at each other, and start talking.

I can only hope.

Reading these all of these replies - it is apparent that the liberal mind can be defined by its malleability.

I hope and pray that the left will take some time and see and feel their worlds for themselves. The essays and blogs from the likes of MediaMatters, or the incessant "John F. Kerry know bests for you's" really do have an impact on these naive people.

The good news is that the rudiments of introspection do appear to be forming! Increasingly we see more and more reformed lefties at TP gatherings. These are folks that actually see, first-hand, the ravages of too much government.

Right after they cash their Social Security check and just before their appointment with their Medicare-paid doctor.

"We've also lost our AAA credit rating for the first time since 1917..."
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Not quite true, of course, because only 1 of 3 agencies tasked with ratings has downgraded the US, but even if it were true of all 3, does this "pro" blogger really expect the informed to ignore the fact that the so-called tea party freshmen were the primary cause for S&P's downgrade?
He goes on to even further undercut his own propaganda for the tea party when he says that big changes, "not just taxing the rich," are needed: again, anyone who's paid the slightest attention knows that the tea party will brook no discussion of any taxation. If the country is going to start up the economic engines in any significant way that could help alleviate the financial woes that the author cries in fear about, responsible fiscal policy, and not the numb minded, reflexive platitudes of the tea party, will be needed to accomplish that, including changes in revenue.
The tea party crowd has precious little to be proud of and if this mentality continues to inexplicably tie the public discourse in knots--inexplicable because the tea party has been demonstrated to comprise such a small portion of the electorate--then it may well be to the tea party's shame that the end of responsible governance in this country can be marked by the day on which the tea party sprang upon the scene.

It's people like you that keep us in a "oh, poor little me" state of mind. I've seen this country rise up and go to the moon, defeat Communism, fight for equal rights for Blacks, women, and LGBT. I thank my god that there are still people in this land that want to achieve something, not just wallow in the fear of being persecuted because the are White Christian

The GOP Corporate funded "tea party" isn't saving ANYTHING!

There was no such thing as the "tea party" until the end of the Bush administration when the GOP right wing "think tanks" had to come up with something to run future campaigns on besides 8 years of GOP failures.

Dick Army, the Kochs, & a few other GOP members started up the "tea party" using Corporate funds before there was any fake "grassroots" add ons.

They got Fox on board to promote, lie, present fake footage in order to get this group started.

Eventually even Murdoch spoke out saying Fox should not be involved in the "tea party" pulling Hannity from appearances of upcoming "tea party" events, & canceled Fox sponsorship.

The recall elections in Wisconsin & the pending repeal of SB5 in Ohio, is the result of the "tea party".

1st item on the "tea party" agenda is to break unions so they can cut union jobs from budgets their "tea party" governors never even looked at before they got in office. They just jumped in job cutting.
That isn't helping America.

That's what comes from too many hours spent in front of Faux news. Any intelligence you might have had is drained away.

And they think by breaking unions, it'll bring back jobs. What a fantasy because it'll give the corporate greed more to be greedy about. They'll just give themselves bigger bonuses and when the working class is gone, they'll set their sights on the newest group on the bottom rung.

John - thanks for setting us straight. Indeed, most do not understand the fierce momentum of congress and the need to make a spectacle of this order- simply to get the dialog started.

I have been to TP gatherings and I am *stunned* by the level of education and by the dedication of these people. MD's, Physicists, Mathematicians, Housewives, Carpenters, Truckers, Engineers, Accountants, Business owners - a really great place to meet sincere and caring people.

Now after listening to our President, the John F. Kerry's, the propagandists of the left - there is no doubt in my mind that we have some very insular and inexperienced people running our country.

It boils down to what the left says: greed. Not greed of money - but greed for power. After seeing first hand what America is about, I must confess, that I nearly throw up when I hear these poor liberals so victimized by their leaders. I really feel for them.

Never again.

Your compassion is stunning. If you were honest, you would openly state that YOUR PRIMARY GOAL is to SHRINK the portion of government that represents 'undeserving', lazy, unemployed people, disabled people, urban people, minorities, gays & lesbians, immoral and Godless people who think differently than you and your kind. People like you accuse the Leftwing of being elitist because they are educated, respect science & history, believe in Evolution, and analyze & question Corporate & Political leadership. In truth, your self-righteous, 'save-the-people-from-themselves' mission is just as elitist, if not more.
