Just yesterday on CNN, Wolf Blitzer asked John Boehner, the leader of the GOP in the House, this question (video on Horse's Mouth):
"The loss in blood, the Americans who are killed every month, how much longer do you think this commitment, this military commitment is going to require?"
And Mr. Boehner responded:
"The investment that we're making today will be a small price if we're able to stop al Qaeda here, if we're able to stabilize the Middle East, it's not only going to be a small price for the near future, but think about the future for our kids and their kids."
What a stunningly cavalier statement about the lives of the young men and women who serve our country.
Whether you support or oppose the Bush escalation, no American should ever for even a moment think the cost of war is small.
A single life is a large price to pay for any endeavor. Sometimes, in our national interest, we choose to pay that awful price, but we must always make sure that the policy is worthy of it.
Visit our wounded warriors at Walter Reed hospital and ask whether the price they paid was small. Talk to the mothers, fathers, husbands and wives of those who have been killed and ask them to measure the price of war. Young lives stopped short, children who won't have a mother or father there as they grow up, when they graduate, when they get married -- that loss is many things, but it is not small.
Where is Representative Boehner's apology? And where is an Iraq policy equal to our soldiers' tremedous sacrifice?

Don't expect one, Mr. Kerry. Moveon.org would apologize before this Republican apparatchik does...maybe he was drunk again, as he often is, when he made this deeply insulting comment. Still, being drunk is no excuse for this remark.
Thank you, Senator Kerry, for not letting Mr. Boehner ("the boner" in my household)off the hook for his Marie-Antoinette-like comment on the "worthiness" of soldiers'lives in Iraq. I would begin by asking him "Have you been in combat, Sir?" or "Have you served in the military, Sir?". The callousness Boehner shows is a mind-set that we decent folks have to expose, shame, and never hear again.
.
republicans have paid too little for the killing of our soldiers and i can only hope that they get a stroke and land comatose in a hospital bed where we can decide whether we see life in them or not..
that our soldiers who continue to be forced to endure failed policies of an idiot like Bush must then pretend that he is their commander in chief is reprehensible..
.
It is basic propoganda 101. It is now an insult to many who understand this and I would be suprised if you did not understand it.
TOOL # 1 : ITS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS
TOOL # 2 : SANDWITCHING, IRAQ 911 IRAQ
So many people knocking Senator Kerry. The comments by Boehner(or boner as I like to refer to him) and Lindsey Graham were basically the same. The question to the general from both of them was: You know we are going to take casualties from the continuation of this war, about 60-90 a month the general said on average a month. So Boner or Graham I forget which one said General is it worth it? Are these American lives worth losing for this war? The general like a good little puppet answered yes he thought so. How dare they say after all this time, after all the mistakes that we leave our troops there like sitting ducks for the Iraq people. These people can't get their shit together to literally save their own asses. They have no government, they are blowing people up everyday including Americans. They took AUGUST off while our troops died on their soil for them! Give me a break. Senator Kerry I am with you, we need an apology from these Republicans and then let them put their kids over there or better yet let them suit up with the shitty armor we gave our troops. I am so sick of this nightmare, we need to cut the funds and get the hell out of there. Bush wants to set up permanent bases in Iraq, is he out of his mind???
Now I remember why I voted for Bush in 2004.
I'm with you on this one 100%, Sen. Kerry. Bush's war of choice wasn't worth one life. Yet this tragic fraud continues to be pushed by lowlifes like Boehner.
Fund only the costs to bring everyone home. The world is waiting for YOU and your colleagues to do the right thing.
The first blood shed and the last blood shed is too dear a price to have paid for this war. Period. Republicans and democrats alike need to come together to end this atrocity and bring our troops home. Now. This minute. No other. This war was never about wmds; there were none; this war is not about al qaeda; they were never in Iraq until we let them in; this war was never about Iraqi freedom; it's a well known fact that people who have never fought, nor have fomented any kind of fight on their own behalf, cannot fight for themselves because they know not how; they cannot help themselves because they have never created any plans to do so. The biggest mistake Bush has made was not to have a diplomatic policy with which to help the Iraqis settle their disputes while we fought their war for them. This is now one of the most miserable phases in American history, and even while writing this I remain bemused as to what is happening to my country.
Please Senator Kerry, you must tell the senate and congress that this has to stop. I know that the republicans feel that they cannot abandon the president, that they have to save face at any cost, but now is not the time for this. Now is the time for the republicans to finally admit that this was wrong and that in order to put things right again they must accept their mistakes, and put aside their pride for the sake of their country. Tell them that in doing so we may not forgive them right away, but we will see that they could at least do this one thing for the love of their country and the soldiers who fight for it. Please, this must be done now.
This is the problem with the people in this country. For the lost of every US soldier in Iraq, a dozen or more Iraqis are killed throughout Iraq. In the earlier stages of the invasion when many of the so called precision guided missiles missed its target or bombed the wrong target many Iraqis were killed and there many innocents among them. A lot more Iraqis were killed while travelling in their car, fired upon by fearful US soldiers. You do not read names of these innocent people in the news and more often these incidents don't even get mentioned until some brave journalist interviews the witnesses at the site.
These Iraqis people are just like you and me, they have families who will worry for them if they are not home in time. Now their country is in turmoil they suffer even greater. How can the US pepole see the lost of a US life
as no small cost without giving a similar thought to the innocent Iraqis who is killed daily? A lack of compassion for others can only mean that in the future what happened to Iraq will happen to other country and it will repeat and repeat again.
There are so much good work done by the US such as being the first country to respond to the Tsunami disaster in Indonesia. The world appreciate the effort of the US in alleviating suffering but equally responsible for causing suffering through war and sanctions. You cannot have a diabolical view to the suffering of people. Suffering is universal regardless of language, race or colour.
The only loss Boehner has ever experienced has been a few bucks lost in a Nassau bet on the golf course. Oh, I don't want to sell him short. He may have lost a Titleist now and then from a stray shot.
He is, always will be, and always was a pure and simple hack. What a total ass. This is the best the Republican Party has to offer to lead our country?
Thanks Sen Kerry
A tragic thing is that Boehner is just blurting out loud what a lot of the pro-war people are thinking to themselves.
We should all be outraged.
Thank you Senator for getting right on top of this fool's ugly statement.
Worse yet, is his repeated "if..." "if..." "if...", which means he isn't even sure of himself. What has turned the Republican Party into a collection of unprincipled pigs? Boehner is another example (along with Powell and Rice and Petraeus) of a disgusting Bush mouthpiece.
Senator Kerry,
Our military aren't sacrificing their lives, their lives are being stolen from them by some of the worst examples of humanity ever to inhabit the planet. Their lives are being used as currency in a childish game of "king of the mountain" that could easily end in total annihilation.
I have no doubt that Rep. Boehner is perfectly comfortable that other peoples son's and daughters should die to feed his lust for power and wealth. I'm certain he wouldn't think twice about risking every life on the planet, including his own family, if it would benefit him.
I am wondering why the rest of you are willing to let him get away with it.
All Boehner did was reveal once more what an idiot
he is (hardly a secret.) Remember, he was hand-picked by Tom Delay. So at least we know he can probably play Golf. We also can tell he has also drunk the "Bush Cool Aide." and thirsting for more.
Hey Ohio! why is this guy still in The House?
"small price"?!?! easy for him to say! by the way, thank you for your patriotism senator kerry - you are a true hero!
