John Krifka is a painter, cartoonist, illustrator, casual writer of a continuing unfinished memoir, and when he has to be, sometimes a help to himself as a lapsed architect. Born and raised in New Jersey, having spent 25 years coming of age in NYC, but still now only 10 years old, and currently living in Northampton, MA, he’s recently completed the illustrations for his first, ‘going wanting,' pictorial humor book. Yes, he did attend college and art school, but that’s all he wants to say about that.

Seeing himself as the itinerant in a field of experienced provocateurs (?) Krifka stands firmly behind the non-ambition tradition of Grandma Moses and is content not to harbor any reliance upon the motto that ‘it’s his to lose.' Understanding the metaphoric ‘term limits of fame,' a safe abiding attitude remains that, until elected, time won’t even start to be an issue (it’s also known as the sometimes sour grapes attitude).

d’Artoons is a resurrected form of earlier visual squiggles about anything that can be laughed at by the use of simple line and color. The form of picture is, at times, more important than the commentary. Hence the d’Art. Krifka had started the theme some years ago, but then fell into the hard luck of painting real pictures-with a lot less humor, but a lot more skill. Now skill is simpler, just a loose style of the springboard idea (hence the toon) - and less polished has become shinier, more spirited fun.
