The Changing Form of Digital Advertising

Posted: Updated:

Behind the glamour of the fashion industry is an ever changing digital world. Like other industries, this digital era has brought similar challenges as well as opportunities for fashion. Fashion trends are always changing, but with the rate that social media is developing, how is it shaping trends for this year?

We all know the importance of having a presence on social media like Facebook and Instagram, but the latest trends are proving that just a presence isn't enough anymore, These days it is all about engaging and interacting with the consumer. Be sure to use all that are available to you to access more consumers. Here are 3 areas which are being proven will push your business right along with these trends.

1. Community Association:

It's simple, if people love what you create, they will spread the word for you! One of the easiest ways to get people to love your brand is by "associating it with other interests and things they love, sports, celebrities, animals, cars etc" says Ellie Ruby the branding expert behind Fortuity. If you don't think you have the budget to hire a celebrity to wear your products search for images of them wearing a similar product or find a demographic to associate with.

2. Experimentation:

There is several ways you can experiment with social media to see what gets the most interaction for your brand. People want to know "what's in it for them" so be clear about how you can benefit them and see which works best for you stated Millard Drexler, CEO of J-Crew. Some examples are follow us on Instagram for giveaways, Pinterest for new fashion tips or tell us about your shopping experience on Twitter etc. The nationally known J. Crew became the first clothing brand to release its fall catalogue exclusively on Pinterest to their 100,000+ followers. This is a big example of an experimentation of how they are using their social media and is a big indicator as to these trends.

3. Stories:

Tell a story either behind or about your brand. How did you come to be and what hurdles you may faced or something that captures your brand in a unique way. People love a good story and something that makes you stand out will make them feel excited about your brand and want to share it. A great example of this is the globally recognized brand TOMS shoes. For every shoe they sell, they give a pair of shoes to someone in need. This is a great "story" that makes their shoes more well known because people talk about it, because it is a good cause they can get excited about.
